How to Collaborate with Cubasis?

Hi, a friend of mine on the forum and I want to collaborate sharing and adding tracks back and forth. What is the best way to get the tracks into each other's Cubasis app? Thanks!

Comments

  • You can export the audio tracks individually and send them. Or I believe you can export a project file and send that if you have the same apps....

  • If you use 3rd party instruments or fx, and your buddy doesn’t own them, you need to freeze those to audio tracks so your buddy can work with the project. Same with Cubasis IAPs I would think.

Basically, you need to both have the same options available for tools to use. If that is not the case, render the stuff to audio when one of you doesn’t own the necessary instrument, effect, or IAP.

  • Yes, @Daveypoo, but just how do you send them?

  • Email? Dropbox? Google Drive?

  • Yes, @CracklePot , but just how do you send them? My friend suggested Dropbox but I have never used that and don't know how it works.

  • Has anyone actually shared files?

  • You upload to Dropbox, then generate a download link to share with others. I think it is similar to the upload and share process for SoundCloud.
I think you can make your Dropbox stuff private, so only those who were sent the link will be able to access it.
I am a Dropbox noob, I confess. But I have used GoogleDrive a lot, which is pretty much the same thing in a different wrapper.

  • Dropbox gives you 5 gig free and is pretty straight forward to share a link to your file. If you each share a folder link with each other you then just have to upload the files to that folder and let your buddy know (the link remains permanent)

  • Or if it will be something constant, you could create a dropbox account for both of you
And link it to both devices

• Ok, so exactly how does Dropbox work? I don't see that as one of the sharing options which are: SoundCloud, Audioshare, Emai, Zip and more (which doesn't seem to open).

I am assuming you get the tracks ready by mixing down as separate tracks and sending each individually?

Oooh, that is pretty cool! Did not know that. :)

Yep. @thesoundtestroom and I have been sharing files and Cubasis projects (uploading to Dropbox and then creating a link that can be shared, and pasting that into an email) for the past 3 years or so. All of our 16 albums have been done that way, and it works very well - even when more than 2 people are involved

With other people I often send files up to 2GB using WeTransfer.com, which is free and you are notified when the file has been downloaded.

You need to install whatever specific app you want to use for sharing - Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
Once installed, you would see them under sharing options.

hey there, just download dropbox ios app to get you going.

  • Well, I guess Doug, as usual, has provided the detailed info. Thanks, @thesoundtestroom!
