New Parametric EQ audio unit from Blue Mangoo

Blue Mangoo just released a parametric equalizer audio unit. It's a six band filter with the same standard EQ curves you find in most DAWs. The point of the app is to be the easiest way to EQ a track in audiobus. Below are three promo codes:

YMWWHPER77WW
7XK3HNKLJ3Y4
JN9NHLFF66TJ

Readers of this thread may take a code. If you take one, you are on your honor to do the following:
1. Post back to tell other readers that the code is taken
2. Write a sentence or two in this thread to tell the others what you thought of the app. You can be honest; you don't have to love the app just because we gave it to you free.

I redeemed the code (JN9NHLFF66TJ). Thanks! Looking forward to trying it and giving feedback.
    Edit:
I like it. Pretty easy to dial in something that simply sounds better. And it’s an audio unit, so it has that going for it.

  • Thank you! I snagged YMWWHPER77WW

Will have a play. Congrats on the launch.

  • I was gonna snag the last code...
But I will let someone else grab it. :)

If you want it, take it. We are doing this because it helps to have some comments from users. It's a new app so there are no reviews or ratings on the App Store yet. People want to read some feedback before they buy.

  • Looks like they are all gone. Would love one with a visualizer one day,

Thank you for providing some free codes. Hope we get the feedback/reviews you are requesting.

Now, who snagged the last code and didn’t report back? :p

All 3 are gone now, if anyone is still trying to redeem the last one.

That’s one of the few holy grail AU fx left for a developer to make. Surprised no ones jumped on that yet

It may just take the AUFX suite update to do it... that will be a massive bow on iOS.

We actually had a visualiser in this one, but we took it out. In theory I know what the visualiser is supposed to do, but in practice I don't find it useful.

Just out of curiosity, can you tell me something about why the visualizer is important to you, or name a desktop based EQ that has a visualiser that you really like?

  • @CracklePot @AudioGus I sent each of you a private message. I'm not sure how notifications work for PM on this forum so I am posting here to tell you to check your inbox.

  • @Blue_Mangoo welcome, does this eq has in presets and also a visual feedback is important

  • edited July 2018

    Awesome, thanks Blue_Mango!

As for visualizers I do like the one in Samplitude or the Toneboosters EQ. For me the aesthetic is not too important though so long as I can just get a quick look at what is going on. It can be good for just zoning in on problem peaks. Can be handy for trimming subs etc. It is just something I got used to, particularly when working in a non-ideal environment like a noisy train or next to that damn washer/dryer.

  • I agree on visualization. I can’t hear 60hz, so it’s great to have a visualizer letting me know that certain frequencies are taking up space.

    thanks

  • Bugger, too late again

No presets that I can see. But save and load for presets working good.

How does it sound in comparison with DDMF 6144 which is my iOS reference EQ?

  • Instabuy, based on @Blue_Mangoo being awesome.

Liking it ok so far. It’s interesting to animate in AUM, haven’t tried it in a “real” mix scenario yet beyond a three synth setup. It’s very light on cpu.

@Janosax - the DDMF 6144 is able to impart more character, I think, but it also takes up more processing. This has fewer features, but useful for that reason.

    Personally, I’m not wanting visualization.

  • We got some bug reports about the app not responding to changes in filter settings after going into the background. We will look into that and hopefully release an update in the next few days. @CracklePot @AudioGus

From the description of DDMF 6144, it looks like that EQ has some saturation in addition to the EQ. This app is just plain EQ. It doesn't model analog saturation or add distortion.

    @djjuniorpops ,

This EQ is the same type of sound as the standard EQ tools that come in most DAWs. There is no reason to use it in cubasis or auria, unless you just like the look of it or the user interface. We built this because I personally use EQ on almost everything I do in audiobus and I wanted something that was easier to use and more aesthetically clean than the current options. Since audiobus already has preset saving, and I want to keep the interface as clean as possible, there is no preset saving. FuxEQ has preset saving so if you need that feature, that's the one you want to buy.

I was able to save presets in AUM, but those probably stay in AUM and not follow the AU to another host. I am using AUM built in preset save, in the AU window.

Same here. Sometimes I'm editing in my home studio and I don't need any visualizations at all* but I might edit on the subway and can look for, for example, too much sub bass that I need to kill, focus in on some harshness that I can hear but not pinpoint as quickly.

    • I have them already (I have synesthesia ha)
  • @AudioGus @Multicellular @DCJ @universe

We spent the day doing bug fixes today and I put in a work request to have a spectral visualizer added. It will just be a single line drawn lightly on the background; nothing fancy.

Great. Yes, Reaper's is the one I most often use and it is just a line. Perfectly useful that way.

  • It looks fine but I wish there was the sound in real time displayed as well, before and after equalization, just like in fabfilter's eq. If it had this feature, I would buy it without hesitation.

  • Finally! An EQ with a visualiser.

  • Doug from the Sound Test Room did a video:

  • This looks good. Simple. Clean. Intuitive. And a visualiser too
