I understand and i must say that Logic is also the only DAW i really like. The problem is on iOS there is not one DAW i really feel fine to use. Only NanoStudio 2 might change this again. I also think the Obsidian synth is exact what i like to see on iOS.
I also think that some genres and styles works maybe even much better on an iPad but soundtrack and deep ambient doesn´t belongs to it yet, especially if you want to use a lot acoustic instruments/samples.
Most important is what you feel when creating music and in iOS it lacks the more immersive and huge cinematic feel i love.
For synths sounds i think the iOS platform is really great.
I just realized also that it would be another expensive route for me if i wanted to build on it while i already have everything on mac. So even if i prefer some things on iOS it´s a financial decision as well.
Nah. I still use modstep and iOS for sketching. But just like how people prefer using hardware machines like the electron sequencers I like the Ableton Push a whole lot
My love of iOS is directly proportionate to my hatred of sitting/standing at a desk and commuting to work.
Agreed. Was actually contemplating grabbing a digotakt but the new features in ableton specially with the note editors and melodic step sequencer just made the push 2 a must buy for me
managed to nab one for just 500$ too.
I've used fruity loops, cubase, reaper, traktion, studio one as well. But none of them really clicked for me. I've always loved Ableton. It's just so much better now. Also.even when I used iOS a lot Ableton was still my main daw. Didn't have a powerful laptop so used iOS instead when I wasn't home. But now I actually move around with a laptop and a push 2 when I travel.
AUv3 makes me thinking about Opendoc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDoc
Wow that’s a blast from the past 😮
To the OP's question (vs the "is iOS ready to replace the desktop?" thread that seems to have come from it): no, I don't think it has.
I do think the Files app (and related APIs) has largely dampened the quest for a grown-up file system for me. I'm rarely itching to get file X from app A to app B anymore. That might be in part to different workflows with AU though, I'm not exactly sure.
As brought up in another thread, there remains some issues related to presets and AUs and portability that we still have to contend with. I guess a more open file system would solve it. If inelegantly.
I was a big fan of cyberdog and this whole concept, and feel it deserves to succeed if reintroduced.
I have Ableton 10 suite. Got it bundled with my push2 for 736 euro total. Had ableton 10 before by upgrading from 9 but I sold it to a friend when I got this bundle. To be honest ableton without suite is kinda pointless since you miss out on all the gorgeous max4live devices.
I'll be frank. Ableton is not your usual daw. Its closer to modstep than studio1. It all depends on whether the workflow works for you. I use ableton coz I like to "jam" with myself using the clip view (session mode). I only use the arrangement view when I'm putting together all the "bricks"(clips) I've built into a "structure"(composition).
It just shows me that I cannot upgrade my current version further.
