Cubasis and multi timbral synths - MIDI Routing - Audiobus solution?

Hi,

my setup is a Korg microKey, Cubasis and the iM1, which is multi timbral with 8 channels.
I thought i could use Cubasis as a pure MIDI sequencer to play and record the different M1 channels.

But thats not possible because Cubasis has no "MIDI Thru re-channelizing" yet. At the moment, if i make a MIDI track on lets say channel 5 and play my microKey (which is always sending on channel 1), i can record that but i don't hear anything because Cubasis is not "re-channelizing" the microKey's channel 1 to the desired iM1 on channel 5 (or whatever channels i selected there).

My question about Audiobus here is: can Audiobus 3 make Cubasis able to record and sequence a multi timbral Instrument like iM1, SoundCanvas, Gadget etc. on different MIDI channels? Does someone of work with such a setup?

THX!

  • I am not sure if this helps in your particular scenario, but you can record the midi coming into Cubasis on channel 1.
Then in Cubasis, set up a new midi track containing ‘no instrument’ as the playback instrument. In the output routing, select the iM1 port and channel you want to send to. Drag the recorded midi from its original track to this new one. When you playback, it will play on the iM1 with the correct voice.
So, you can’t re-channelized the ‘live’ midi using midi thru. But you can set the output channel in the midi output section to play the correct multi-timbral voice on the correct channel. This only happens with recorded midi, while playing back in Cubasis, not in real-time using midi thru.
You can have one track setup to record channel 1 midi, and copy it to other midi tracks that are setup to output on the correct midi port and midi channel.
