Using midi guitar 2 to control Jamup pro and ThumbJam with IRig he?

I’m new to the iOS music platform. Looking for help on how to use my IRig hd, and use jamup pro or AmpliTube and... use midi guitar 2 app to utilize thumbjam or sample tank while performing live...can audiobus 3, or AUM get me there? Or do I need some type of other hardware interface? Appreciate any help.
Cheers, Mark

  • "midi guitar 2" looks like it's free but might require a $20 IAP to drive any other App that inputs the MIDI. I need to find reviews to inure the latency is not too great. You MUST convert guitar input to MIDI using some hardware (i.e. Roland Guitar Synth and special guitar) or maybe this App. I'm gonna go look for reviews now.

  • There's also a "MIDImorphosis - Polyphonic Audio to MIDI Conversion" App for $10.
    Anyone used these 2?

  • You can check out MIDI Guitar 2's capabilities in the free version -- including MIDI out. It times you out of MIDI mode unless you purchase the IAP. I personally find it very impressive and responsive. Much better than the Roland Guitar Synth I had 20 years ago. A friend says that it isn't as responsive as the Fishman Triple Play hardware, but it is quite impressive. How impressive one finds it depends a lot on how cleanly one plays. I actually find it helpful for cleaning up my playing.

You can get a good impression of how well it works from the demo. There are a lot of folks that swear by it.

  • Hi, Thanks everyone for the quick response, just to be clear, I have the Midi Guitar 2 app, it works great , surprising low latency. I guess my question gets more to the point of how can I switch, on the fly (live situation)from using the Jam up pro guitar app/software with the IRIG HD, to say for example i.e., Thumbjam, Moog Model 15, etc...or any other synth app for that matter that is compatible using MIDI Guitar 2 as the controller (vice a keyboard) to play the synth app? I would also like to layer the guitar sound with the app sound/s if possible. What would the layout look like in AB3 or AUM? Thanks Again. Mark

  • Yes, you can do this with either AudioBus or AUM. I performed live with this exact setup for a while using AudioBus (MiMix for mixing the signals and muting) and never had any issues. You'll need a footswitch if you want to turn on/off the synth guitar on the fly. Note that you can't use the audio part of MG2 in AudioBus--probably not an issue for you if you are using TJ as sound source.

I still break out MG2 and play the TJ cello with my electric guitar from time to time. Very expressive!

  • Thanks lukesleepwalker, exactly what I needed to know. I'll try connecting my blueboard to switch off/on synth sounds. Cheers.
