ApeMatrix or AUM?
To get both might be redundant . Which one then?
Comments
Either one is not enough for me. I love the speed of hooking up apps in ApeMatrix and the easy LFO automation of AUs. But I pipe ApeMatrix into AUM for the loop recording, bussing and mixing. Get whichever one takes your fancy then get the other when you can afford it...
Think the answer partially lays in the names.
ApeMATRIX is focused on routing stuff to other stuff. In a lot of ways, it’s the AUM midi matrix taken to lovely extremes.
AudioUnitMIXER aka AUM is focused on mixing your AUs (and AB lanes and IAAs). “Mixer” is a bit of an undersell though because it allows for very complex routing as well–it’s just not the primary focus. Plus per channel recording and lots of other bits.
If I had to pick one, it would be AUM. It just does so much and does so much of it so extremely well. Doesn’t matter though, they’re really different beasts with different focuses and different strengths.
apeMatrix is cooler and I rarely use AUM anymore, but AUM has three things ape doesn't...separate outs for recording multiple channels, a file player to play back what you've recorded for further processing, and a host of quick and dirty (but quality sounding) onboard tools and effects (filters/saturation/eqs/stereo) for said processing.
So I'd have to recommend AUM as a more complete package. Even though my personal preference is apeMatrix and it's way cooler.
Oh, ok.. No problem affording both.. I was just wondering it it was optimal and the answe seems to be “yes”. Thanks again amd love to all on this forum.
Can you record synced loops in ApeMatrix?
Both are essential in my book
No but I really like the record mode in apeMatrix that it isn’t locked to the timeline so you can record your sessions and stop the sessions and it can record the tails. Not as easy to do that in AUM as it stops the record when you stop the timeline. So you could just output the audio to AUM to record the loops.
AUM is my go to but more and more I am using apeMatrix for its lfo automation, which is amazing.
Definitely not redundant to have both as they both offer something a little different.
Start with AUM and when you are ready apematrix is waiting. I assume you have audioshare?
