SynthMaster Player not redundant!

I bought SynthMaster one and it’s superb, a worthy purchase :) . Matter of fact I thought it would make SynthMaster Player redundant but that’s turned out not to be the case - SMP has a ton of patches and expansion packs not available in SMO. So I guess the big question is when will SMP get the AUv3 treatment (heard it’s supposed to be coming?) and/or will SMO ever get all the patches/expansion packs?

SynthMaster Payer is one of the few (2-3-ish) apps left on my iPad that I’m waiting for, to get the AU<3 treatment. (Effectrix n Cyclop) then no more to refresh about.

@kv331audio_bulent said it would take him approximately 3 weeks (or was that months) to do, as the framework/infrastructure (or whatever the technical term is) is already in place from SynthMaster One.

I guess we will have to wait a little while, as SynthMaster One is still being refined, (and he is on a break).

The SMP sound is massive, and a great amount of presets, makes sure this is a keeper for me.

It’s one I’m looking forward to too..

  • I was told that it will go AU after synthmaster one . But don’t think it will be anytime soon .
I remember when they changed the GUI (it was a bit draft at beginning , now it’s super polished) , the cpu usage went very high . So unless they also changed the engine , as AU it could be lighter :)

Sure I read he wrote an entirely different GUI framework for SMO rather than use the standard iOS one (which SMP uses). No idea if he is planning on changing that en route to AUv3

This and ToneStack are my two remaining AUv3 wishes...

SM1 comes with 500 factory presets. As per the dev, the remaining 300 presets will be released in Sep (IAP) along with Preset Ratings and other enhanced features.

If your talking about SM1 getting SMP's patches/expansion packs... then nah, not gonna happen.

But who knows what technology the future holds.. Someome could come along and develop a converter etc..

“Never say never” ... although I just wrote it twice!

SM Player initially came with 100 preset and offered another 100 bonus presets upon registering. They offered an IAP to get all the 800 factory presets. Later on, they seemed to have included additional 28 preset banks as IAPs totaling 1750 presets. Sure, SM Player app is just a part/SUBSET of SM1 app and hence, SM1 should get all the 1750 presets at which time SMP would become redundant/obsolete. It may be possible to even offer all the 3600 presets of SynthMaster desktop in SM1.

Even if the 2 had all the same patches, SMP will always be just a player while SMO will always be fully tweakable meaning they both still have a place. But hey I don’t mind if they don’t both have the same as long as they are both AUv3 (plus I’ve bought expansion packs in SMP, would rather not pay for them again) ;)

Most of us paid again for SM1 with 500 initial factory presets and it was on sale during June for $15. SMP is not AU yet. Maybe, if they offer SMP as an AU, it would have some performance benefits when used as AU over SM1 because SMP is a skimped-down version. They also have plans for SynthMaster 2 on iOS for next year and you know what that means for us

I think here you missed it. Synthmaster player is a just trimmed down version of Synthmaster (desktop version). SM1 is a different synth.

Maybe, but once an app is created with well-thought-out design, reusable architecture and frameworks, it is all mix-n-match and mash up various modules from existing apps to create newer apps from there on. One synth may be having 3 oscillators and another one having just 2. One may be just a player with minimal parameters exposed in the UI (subset) while the other one facilitates to tweak sounds, manage presets, share, etc. They don't rewrite whole modules to create newer apps as logic in modules is shared across projects (unless they are written in different languages). SM1 on iOS is a port of their SM1 desktop VST. You may see the new enhancements @kv331audio_bulent made recently in the iOS version ported to their desktop VST as well and vice-versa

Apparently, their internal structures are different and not compatible with each other. For instance, if the player preset structure has 40 properties and SM1 preset structure has say 70 properties, they are not compatible as-is. What they are saying above may be that we cannot reuse player IAPs as-is in SM1 but they should be able to bring the IAPs to SM1 with a few tweaks later on (we may have to buy them again when they do).

(edit) or they could enhance SM Player and make it AU
