iPad 2018 or iPad Pro 2017 advise please
I hestitate between an iPad 2018 or iPad Pro 2017. The iPad 2018 32GB = 300 euros and the 128GB version = 420 euros. While the price of an iPad Pro 2017 64GB = 650 euro. The big difference beween the 2018 and 2017 Pro is the internal memory, 2GB vs 4GB. My questions is do I gain for the extra 2GB music apps in the near future. My experience with my current iPad Air 2 is that I hardly get into memory trouble, because I hardly use 3 or 4 instrument apps open and harly use effects in a DAW like AUM. Beside that I'm aware that the Pro has a better screen and better camera and a slightly better processor.
Please advice which is the best buy and is it worth to pay more 200 extra euros for the Pro version?

There was a thread about this awhile back. A user here tried both and tested them - in the end he went with the regular 2018 iPad.
I recently got a 2018 iPad and it's great. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend - and from what it sounds like in your use case (only running a few apps at once) then the 2018 iPad would suffice
the difference is more for drawing apps, the pro 2017 has a better screen for drawing also i believe the speakers are better. if that doesn't bother you the ipad 2018 should be a good choice.

There you go.
If you do buy the Pro, definitely get more than 64GB storage unless you absolutely know you are only using it as an instrument and not recording anything ever. If that is the case, I’d also say you also definitely don’t need the Pro unless you need the bigger screen size for say GeoShred or something. I have a 12.9 “ Pro and an Air 2 and I definitley get a lot more done with the Pro. I don’t think I need the 4GB Ram so much, I tend to do things that are processor heavy. I think you’ll be fine just getting the 2018 model.
The only reason I bothered with an iPad Pro 2017 12.9" is I needed a stable sheet music reader and wanted the 512gb of space to store it in so I'd never run out. Once I paid that one off, I went and got the 2018 iPad with 128gb so I didn't wear out the other one with everyday shit.
Sure the screen animations aren't as smooth and there's an itty bitty gap between the glass and the screen, but everything works better than my iPad Air 2 did. It's Apple Pencil compatible in case you need a stylus for entering notes and cover art. I can't believe this thing was only $429, and paying $50/month on my Best Buy charge means it'll be paid off within 10 months or less. Not bad!
Also, consider getting the $9.99/month iCloud subscription for the extra 2TB storage. (Yeah, one of the only subscriptions in the appstore that actually makes sense, lol.)
Thanks for this one! Also thanks for all other responders so far. Looks I'm going for the iPad 2018. Also because the Pro 2017 has crackling issues. Unles somebody has a not yet mentioned reason to go for the 2017 Pro.
Well, if you need a sheet music reader, definitely iPad Pro 2017. Crackling issues have been resolved by now. However, iPad 2018 is just so much nicer for producing music on the run in my opinion. I've had no issues yet (except maybe a little buffer underrun at lower sampling rates), and I'm talking about 15+ tracks in Gadget.
Apple really wanted to protect it's Education Sales: "There are 200,000 apps made for education and that Apple’s most popular iPad is the 9.7-inch model. Apple is attempting to capitalize on these stats with its new 2018 iPad that supports the Apple Pencil."
Otherwise, I think the new 2018 models would have higher price points. Take advantage of this pricing benefit.
Paying $99 for the pencil was really painful. I rarely use it. I'd probably use it to draw or do
sheet music notation editing but for Music Apps I haven't got into the habit.. my hands are always on a MIDI controller or a guitar. The low cost iphone pens still work so the responsiveness of the Apple Pen is not a *must have".
The Pro's are great for sheet music display and of course... RAM but I suspect juggling 4GB of RAM with realtime audio streams is a recipe for finding bugs most of us don't hear. If a bug needs to be fixed by Apple changing IOS your probably not going to get quick response.
My advice is wait a few months...for the rumored octacore iPad pro
It’s a bit confusing how they got rid of the Air series but then introduced two disparately proved but nearly identical new models. The Pro is said to out perform the new MacBooks. With the pro you get more RAM but also a higher screen resolution and screen refresh rate so it sort of cancels out the normal performance between the two models except that the Pro has “smoother”animations and 4K video quality etc. A number of users have complained about bugs in the pros as well. The real advantage the Pro can give is the storage space. The largest iPad is 128 G which is plenty but the Pro can go up to something like 512 G I think.
Comparing the Storage Costs of the Current Models
Pro 12"
64GB $799 $12.50/GB
256GB $949 $3.70/GB
512GB $1149 $2.25/GB
Pro 10.7"

256GB $799 $3.12/GB
512GB $999 $1.95/GB

32GB $329 $10.28/GB
128GB $429 $3.35/GB *** Mine's at 111GB today but I bought too many Colossus Pianos

Mini 4 7.9"
128GB $399 $3.12/GB
The iPad Pro's don't have those issues any more. That's something from the past.
But you can save yourself quite some money by buying an iPad 2018. So you can buy more apps!
Which sheet music reader you use?
Pia Score.

It's never crashed on me, I love its tagging system, I can see my scanned music clearly, etc.
Piascore is great!! I even use it with iPhone 7 Plus with auto scrolling in landscape mode.
