MIDI Controller Pickup Mode AUM

anyone know if this is possible some way ? i have my circuit mapped to some AU's in AUM but i have set up a page switch with midi flow so i can extend my 8 knobs to 32 depending on which "page" i set my switch to, but when changing between "pages" then manipulating the knobs the values jumps in AUM to the current value of the knob, i would like it to pick up once i twist it to the current value, i hope someone understands what i mean, fx i the layer manual it says:

" MIDI Controller Pickup Mode
Currently an experimental option that allows external MIDI controllers to "pick up" an assigned MIDI control as the value passes
though the controller's initial value. "

i want that in AUM for midi controllers, i dont think there is a option for it in AUM, but maybe i can do some magic with other apps to get this functionality ?

  • Hi @Hansson !

I'd like that also :) Problem is that feature of "echoing" CC's on load of lots of synths is just not implemented...
You might want to read this, and sign the manifesto ;)

We need to keep asking / bugging devs for this, and one day we will get a solution inch'Allah :)

i think iam going to try a make either midi designer or lemur surface as a man in the middle controller, that might work. if any one has some experience with this so please shout out.

You can't do this in AUM (I certainly wish!). Using MIDIDesigner as an intermediary is a good approach.

If your Circuit can output relative messages (e.g. a constant stream of CC value of 63 when turning down and 65 when turning up - but there are other methods of relative control) then you don't need "pickup" per se, just have a MIDIDesigner control respond to the relative message and output the proper fixed value.

If you can't send relative messages then you do need "pickup." In MIDIDesigner you're going to need to use the Pedalboard with hardware pickup enabled. Then make those pedalboard controls Supercontrols that affect the main page controls.

Here's a template I made for my Korg NanoKontrol (OG version with only 2 buttons, but 9 channels), but it could help get you started.

Again, if the Circuit can output relative controls you'll be much better off that way rather than using pickup.

  • awesome, i just tried the mididesigner approch before going to bed last night coul'nt make it work, ill have a look at your template thanks.

Try asking @SpookyZoo he is pretty good with this sort of thing with Midi Designer etc.

I think MidiDesigner has a ‘send value on release’ in each controllers settings. I’m out most of today but can check back this evening.

  • Just checked on the phone..

  • what does send on release mean ?

  • Not used this setting yet but I imagine this means Midi Designer will not send a knob value until the touch or movement is ended. Whether this will work when assigned to physical knobs, I’m not sure. Happy to test when I’m home later though.

  • Although it does sound like a ‘pickup’ feature that aplourde mentioned is more in line with your requirements.

  • yeah i think so too, will try that one, but if the option was implemented in AUM it would be awesome.
