  • My favourite bass synth is WaveMapper, but I’m not really sure what bass sounds people use in Trance music.

I’ve only just bought it, but quite taken with Unique. Didn’t get it to start with because it wasn’t AU. Just bought it in the sale as it’s now AU and quite taken with it for lead sounds. It has quite a modern and cutting sound, but the presets aren’t exactly showing it at its best imo.

If you can cope with them sapping your iPad loads, Model D and Zeeon are two of the best sounding synths on iOS - you could make sounds for all genres with these two.

Off the top of my head, just the drum kits. To be honest, a lot of the presets sound the same, or at least a lot of the presets are derivatives of a smaller set of pcm samples (the app is less than 100 MB). The nice thing about M1 however is you've got some ready-made ambient textures, some leads, some fat basses, etc. If you are really into trance a lot of my music catalog falls into that and these two albums or singles feature M1 pretty much entirely here and here so you can get a taste of the sound.

If you're making trance on IOS you ought to post a link that we can check out. At the moment I'm also a huge proponent of Monopoly and the Gadget IAP Lisbon.

The freebie Audiokit is of course excellent. I also have a few of the ones you've mentioned that I would totally endorse, especially if you sample them into something like Beatmaker or my personal favourite Vancouver in Gadget. To really understand the benefit of sampling your synths and to get a really interesting take on vintage hardware based music production I would also recommend visiting Junkie XL's amazing youtube channel. Specifically this video on sampling your synths for sequencing here .
