  • @cem_olcay Minor request... in chord mode, please add an option to show the Roman numerals for the chords in the bottom keyboard. When you make the keyboard small and/or turn on inversions, there’s wayyyy too many characters on each key. The sideways scroll/wobble helps, but just using standard I,ii,III kinda stuff would be more readable. At least as an option.

That's a very good idea, I'll look into that, thanks!

OK, I added roman numerals under the chord names. New update will be released in a couple of days :)

  • Damn that's some snappy service! :)

  • Have both this and chordbud and just wanted to give a thanks for they have helped me immensely and learn more about music theory than many of the videos I've spent hours cramming. Thanks again for these amazing apps.

    Small nit to pick.

    Don't show CM7 as I7 since I7 is a traditionally the C7 chord.
I suggest IM7 or Imaj7 or just I and let jazzers spice it up with that Maj 7th at will 'cuase they will).

Otherwise it breaks with the wiring of the musician trained to read I7 correctly and they would grab that C7 thinking we're getting bluesy now.

  • @cem_olcay Been loving this app more and more! I’ve got a weird request, as there’s still room in the “keys”, could you maybe display the the midi note number, or add an option to display it. A bunch of apps, even like Bram’s Rozeta stuff, require midi note number for things like scale notes, and it’s a pain to have to always have a reference sheet to look them up.

Would be useful if it’s not too painful to add. 😀

  • @cem_olcay me again! 😜

I’ve been routing Autony into ScaleBud and then into several instances of StepPolyArpUnit. Amazing setup!

One lil request... any way you could have a key do “something” to indicate what key is being activated by incoming midi into ScaleBud? Like invert colors, or light up a border around the key, or even just a little dot or something?

Would make it easer to figure out what’s happening as well as aid in midi transpose debugging.

Also, a latch/hold mode would be killer as well.

    Thanks man!!!

Hi @MonkeyDrummer, yeah those are some great ideas, I'll definitely consider it, especially the hold/latch mode :)
BTW, today I released the v1.4.1, with a MIDI Panic button and few fixes,

    • Fixed the MIDI stuck when you changing the chord octave while you playing something,
    • And fixed the active scale name display on the right-hand side list.

Also, let's keep this between us but I started to work on a very cool new AUv3 MIDI sequencer bud app, after a long while. Will share the details soon on twitter

    I promise I won’t tell anyone... 🤪

  • I'm pretending I haven't seen anything.
However, great thread with great suggestions and responses.

  • This dope ScaleBud review video has just arrived by @Shazamm !

Don’t know if it’s me, but seems y’all are having a bad link day.. Was able to salvage the video but not StepBud.. can you please repost?

    Thanks

  • New ScaleBud v1.5 update!!!
Now, you can adjust the key size and they are far more sensitive.
    Also, pentatonic scale chords added!

Meanwhile I was busy with improving StepBud, I made a quick demo video for the new StepBud update with Cubasis looping. But I think it's more like a ScaleBud demo rather than StepBud's :) So, I'm just leaving the video here. ScaleBud is way more powerful with the last update it got last month (which unfortunately left behind the shadows of StepBud) 💪

Since the v1.6 update two days ago, ScaleBud's on-screen keys are no longer triggered when pressing them. Yesterday's 1.6.1 update didn't fix it either. Updating from iPadOS 13.2 to 13.2.2 didn't help. I emailed Cem but he cannot reproduce this issue. It appears that a slight swipe to the left or right immediately after pressing the key is required to trigger the key.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    2018 iPad 6, iPadOS 13.2.2. iPad internal audio/headphones, 44.1kHz. No external peripherals.

Can you also try deleting and re-installing it? I know it's silly but sometimes that does the trick

Thanks @cem_olcay I deleted it & reinstalled for the 3rd time, rebooted. Still doesn't work in either standalone or any AU host.

Ok, that was a strange iPadOS bug, just fixed it. Uploading the v1.6.2 now

Thanks @cem_olcay - ScaleBud is fixed with today's update! Would love to see some of the Japanese scales like Hirajoshi, Insen, Iwato, Yo, etc.

Loving the new RhythmBud app too. Awesome apps.

Great news! Sorry about the bug though, I was trying to fix somewhere else lol 😅
Sure, I'd love to add more scales! Any source recommendations where I can find such scales, for reference?

Thanks again @cem_olcay I'm no expert, & tend to use the many different scales that Rozeta offers, especially the Japanese scales.

Oh, I see, I'll add the missing scales from that list, it seems like they're pretty solid. I built my music theory framework -- which is completely open-sourced -- on top of my old music theory books. And that framework is the foundation of all my audio apps along with AudioKit
