    Only a few hours bro!

Found it out btw. It’s called ratchet count and ratchet decay in the layer section! Boy this is the best drummer on iOS hands down! Incredible!

Enjoy your jam! This can easily be an amazing sequencer for 8 instances of .... almost anything! Wow

  • It's landed in the U.K. :)

I'm still showing pre ordered 😩😩

    GO DEEP.

Although I can't right now because despite pre-ordering it's all a bit grayed out at the moment here in Austin. No doubt will perk up shortly....wanders off whistling to self....

  • I don’t wanna stay Up til midnight necessarily but we will see haha! Can’t wait to have some intricate hi hat fill fun

  • I saw why many liked Patterning 1. I bought it, learned it, and appreciated it.

Ultimately, I never really ended up using it all that much. Don’t think I’ve even opened it within the last 6 months or so.

That said, what about P2 has everyone so jazzed? What are the biggest differences from P1?

Not knocking it. I love and own all of this devs apps. Just don’t seem to reach for them much.

If Patterning never ended up being an app I used much, is it likely that Patterning 2 will repeat that trend? Or, is a completely different app now? The interface on first blush looks pretty much the same.

Lotsa fabulous new features for them that use it. Enough to make me get it even though I said I wouldn’t at first. Nothing I can see to make someone who tried it and didn’t find a use for it to need it.

Best thing to do is go watch Doug’s video.

Hah! The notification that it popped in from pre-order just came up as I typed that. Buh-bye!

  • Rats. It’s not an AB3 Midi Sender. :/

  • Here’s a little AppJam with it

But!! Works perfect with MF Adapter and full state save!

My mistake. No state save. :'(

Can I just start by saying amazing work, this is a beautiful app taken to the next level.

Highlights and comments on next step development :

    • Slew tempo, however I dont understand the song option over the pattern one, but Ill get back to that...

    • The random stuff

    • The coarse tune quantizer is genius, really opens up Patterning to being a melodic jammer and with the random stuff a melody generator. However, how did it work out its route note or what note the original sample is? Is this something that can be set by the user or an under the hood potion?

    • The control over the pattern launch quantisation is very much welcome.

    • The fact you can control velocity on the record page is a wonderful surprise!

    • Drum kit swapping, oh yes!

    • Ratcheting is nice, but pehaps allow Ratchet Attack as well as Decay?

My big gripe that I know someone else has illustrated is the Song page, I simply never used the timeline but dont take any issue with it if others like it, my problem is with editing the patterns. I’d want to be able to move them around and rename each pattern as the way I use patterning is a live instrument. If something is created via brainstorming and I want to rearrange the order, its a major hassle.

Also state saving, which I haven't tested but Ive seen dismay from other comments. I have no desire to see Patterning 2 go AUv3 etc but more intergration into the save states of AUM, AB3 and apeMatrix would make this my main app for live performances , seriously its so good but those niggles really make it hard to rely on it.

Ill also post this on The Olympia Noise Co forum.,. EDIT er when i can, as the site is down right now! Must mean a lot of excitement. @benkamen

  • OMG the x2 button on the layer page! BEAUTIFUL!

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

These were features I hoped would updated in P1...

So far I'm not tempted enough by the new features but we'll see if any get added over time which will push me off the fence. :)

  • I’d really really love the ability to mix and match (merge) patterns into new ones. My dream would be to have a page of its own for this where you could select multiple patterns and instantly hear how they combine. This would be the ultimate killer feature for me.

I guess I can understand why Olympia Noise might not go to the trouble to add AB3 midi. But why, oh why, they and other developers go to the trouble to add AB3 capability and leave out state saving puzzles me greatly.

I know I’m focusing on this disappointment over all the great, amazing, features, polish, and all the hard work that clearly went into this. Worthy of anyone’s purchase IMO.

  • I can’t download patterning 2 yet here in Canada. It’s 10pm here. Maybe have to wait until midnight when the release date starts.
