[SOLVED] iBassist - How do I randomize the pattern without changing the key?

Loving iBassist so far, but if I'm trying to get a bassline for a song, anytime I switch the line it changes my the chord progression too.

I would like to just have a set chord progression, or even just a set key, and have the basslines randomized within that.

It’s easy to miss until you spot it.

So far it's been great. I'm not a bass player, at all. But I was able to put together all the parts for Brown Eyed Girl pretty quickly. within 30 mins from start to finish, while learning along the way, I was able to create my own custom backing track for a song with Bass and Drums (linked to soft drummer, which I also just bought now).

Only issue I couldn't figure out on my own was locking the chord progression so when I tried different patterns I wouldn't lose my progression. Asked here, and got an answer within minutes.

Also, I eventually discovered the Brownie, and Brown bass lines. Apparently Brown Eyed Girl was one of the songs that the dev was testing with too.

  • Hey @jayfehr - I was getting this thread confused with the other one. How are you randomizing the bassline? Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys. This forum is always dripping useful sauce. I wish this was AU but I guess i just need iBassist to be very easily configurable for sending midi to control my other Synth apps. It seems that it handles this task easy enough and as long as it stays in sync looks like a safe buy. Thinking about going with Future Drummer to go with it also.

IMO the other drum apps are a better fit. This is a pretty convincing live bass player emulation. I don’t often hear live bass players playing to synthesized electronic drum lines. But maybe your listening palette is different than mine. ;)

I was just selecting the different options in the Line column. Each on plays a different bass line. However, if you don’t hit the lock button, it’ll also change you’re chord progression.

  • Loving this app, really filling the void that is my lack of bass knowledge.

Anyone having success sending the Midi to other apps in AUM? Is it possible?

I guess when the dust settles down, many developers will have to learn something from this app.. The Export Feature is CLASSIC... It brings Ableton Link V3 Start/Stop critical to iPad music production (especially with multiple iPads... Sync to Desktop Ableton live/Maschine etc.)... This is definitely the future.. Looking forward to the next update...

Hope Lumbeat implements the Export Feature across it other programs... > @mAxjUlien said:

I’m actually not familiar with any of the drum apps...would primarily want to use whichever one is best to trigger my own sounds. Just intriguing to have the patterns auto generated to fit the bass lines. Must be a huge workflow boost even if just for ideas.

Which one of his drum apps is better for Hip Hop, RnB if any? Funky?

Can’t go wrong with Future Drummer... works really well with iBasist... you do know you can trigger Synths with iBassist...

Got it. Thanks. I think those bass lines are tributes to already known artists/tracks/styles? I was hoping the patterns could be randomized in some way. Cheers though.
