Akai MPK Mini mk2 and Ipad Air 1with the new lightning to USB 3 camera adapter still do not work
I have tried to connect my new Akai MPK Mini mk2 with my Ipad Air 1 (iOS 10.3.3) using a lightning to USB 3 camera adapter having my IPad charger connected to the adapter in the additional lightning socket, but the iPad still complians that my Akai MPK Mini requires too much power. I firmly beleived that this new camera adapter was to solve this issue. Is it my IPad who gives too little power despite the additional power beacuse it's too old or not updated to iOS 11? Does anyone else have this exact combo (Akai MPK Mini mk2 > ligtning to USB 3 camera adapter (powered through the iPad charger connected) > iPad Air 1, and have got it to work? Would a passive USB in between the camera adapter and the iPad "fool" my iPad to give more power despite having it powered throught the additional ligtning contact? Read that somewhere but would like to check before buying even more gadgets. Appreciate all help. Thanks.
PS. The camera adapter is not Apple original, but it seems this is such a common issue that this would not be the problem.

Usb3 cck powers the iPad, not the usb device. The mpk mini mkii doesn't work directly with the iPad due to power requirements from everything ive read on here, so you'll need some sort of hub for it. Passive sometimes fools the iPad, powered hub would work though from what I know.
I'm pretty sure that controller needs a powered hub to work with an iOS device. It's the reason I didn't buy and went for the Arturia Minilab instead.
Appreciate your replies above. What made me think it would work is that you see a lot of youtube videos having this setup, what looks to me to be without a hub but only the new usb 3 cck powered through ligthning. But I am not sure if it's the ipad which is different or if i have missed anything.
I had a Akai MPK Mini mk2 and I used to connect to my ipad with a usb hub (not powered). If I connected the keyboard directly to ipad it didn't turn on. The trick is the usb hub.
Known issue that Akai still hasn’t fixed. Main reason why I passed on the keyboard and got the novation launchkey mini.
Grab this and the MPK should work fine even without powering the iPad. A non powered hub works too

Thanks for all the replies and help. Indeed, a passive USB hub in between the controller and the camera connection made it work.
I have a Akai MPK Mini II and use a powered cck3 with POWERED hub and it´s working great.
Also use a zoom u24 interface for great sound.
Hi Frenq, I have only tried with the unpowered USB hub and it works, even without powering the cck3 interface. As mentioned, it seems that the lightning connection is just charging the iPad and not supporting the connected gear. I assume it is some weird restriction in the iPad on how it powers things connected.
is there a list of midi controllers that can be hooked up to ios via cck alone without using any usb hub?
@suboidua I have no idea, but as you can see above, Novation Launchkey seems to work. Not sure if this solution is applicable for other controllers (or equipment) than the Akai MPK mini, but it must have something to with what power the iPad feeds depending on what's connected.
Usually you should follow a step by step so...
1. Plug the akai into cck3
2. Plug the cck3 into iPad.
If you do oppossite usually warning appears.
If you add a hub then...
1. Plug the akai into hub.
2. Plug the hub into cck3.
3. Plug cck3 into iPad.
Any other combination of steps could bring you mixed results.
Put passive usb hub between the cck3 and MPK.
