I made a preset on Kosmonaut called „INIT %%%“

What I do is, set the four heads to percent instead of steps (?!)
First to 0%, second 25%, third to 50% and fourth to 75%
It’s really not an awesome solution but it works.

After this amazing sampler we got recently, I cross my fingers for an AU<3 looper or sequencer.

@Martinj thanks for sharing. Will later check your Solution, looks interesting for sure

Which sampler do you refer to?

I meant the virsyn one. AudioLayer.
I am not a midi and app hero like Samu, Audiodabbler or you.... or a knob magician we have here like Brice or RSL, but I got some really nice stuff out of this and find AudioLayer being a great addition to the arsenal.

Tip: feed some layers of single cycle waveforms to it and get lost in some drone music, ambient, downtempo sort of noices :)

    I mean these here: https://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/

Anyway, why not expand on this - how about streaming those loops to disk, so that you may prevent the memory problem?

There is no memory problem. Only when you use it beyond how it is intended to be used you may run into a limitation. I don’t intend to implement a complicated disk streaming mechanism just to exploit a bug. I’d rather fix the bug instead. 5 minutes of work versus 2 days and a day of testing ;)

    Albeit audiobus IS required

Could you please explain this setup?

In AUM you have a Synth?
And then you have 3 Loopy instances going back into AUM - into what exactly?
    Also Samplr(?) also into AUM...

How do you use this setup?

Mic going into AUM, through AudioEffx and into Loopy

Guitar going into AUM, through ToneStack and into Loopy

Loopy Ch 123 in Audiobus go into AUM and there into Turnado and out.

Samplr in Audiobus goes into AUM, then through another instance of Turnado and out.

All of the sequenced drum and synth stuff comes from Circuit which is slaved to AUM.

The reason have Samplr in AB and not AUM because I want its content stored within the Audiobus preset.

This is a set up I use live and is a result of an evolution over the last 5 or so years and overall hasn’t changed dramatically. Other than the addition of AUM and more instances of Turnado since AU.

You can hear some of the stuff on my channel, there’s sone 80 videos made with this rig.

  • Ha @breilly , that was me asking the question on that forum and I appreciate you posting it here too
I was just hoping that the folks over in that forum would have more options or solutions and so attempted there first !

That’s the only caution I need to give if you want to use this loophole

Incidentally, ‘Loophole’ would be a great name for a looper.

You can access the other beats beyond 8 only via hardware midi controller? Mines stops at 8 and stars again with 1, no 32, 64 etc available here...

Looks like it. He mentions that specifically at 2:40 or so in the video above.

I doubt Kosmonaut knows or cares what sends it midi CCs. Try a software controller and see.

I reckon that's correct. It needn't be 'hardware'. Just something external to the app's own buttons sending the correct CC value.

I still haven't given this a shot but I'm quite interested to try it out. On some hardware controllers and in some iOS MIDI controller apps, you can set a button to send different specific values on each press—so instead of simple toggle between 0 and 127, you can have it go from 0 to 10 to 20 to 30 to... on each press. I want to see about setting up a button that will move Kausmonaut between fixed 'measure' based values ala Loopy: 16 steps, 32, 48, 64 steps, etc (1 bar, 2 bars, 3 bars...)

Honestly, honorable @brambos, it seems you have most of the "Simple AU Looper" code already in hand (admittedly, that's just simplified speculation from this side of xcode). I reckon most of us would eat up whatever you released. In my mind, the term 'simple' is flexible. Single track recorder/loop player that you can set the length of (before recording), would immediately start playing at the end of the record period and allowed for erase/replace is the simplest I can think of. The UI would just be two big buttons: record/play and erase. This version alone is worth $$$ to me if it "just works".

After that, features could be added but they'd all be bonuses IMO (some paid?!). From my perspective, next would be wave export so that you can move the recording around between apps that may not support the AU or presets, etc *. Next would be the ability to overdub on the base loop. Next would be the ability to undo overdubs. Next would be MIDI control of all of it (though if the controls were exposed to the host like Kosmonaut, that'd be handled out the gate). Next would be time stretching so that if the host tempo changed, the loop would stay in time. Next would be the ability to treat each overdub layer discreetly (undo, level, panning...). Next would be... you doing you (triggering slices of the loop via MIDI notes from Collider? Yes please!).

Surely, there are infinite 'nexts', depending on the user/use case but it seems clear at this point that lots and lots of us want some simple way to capture loops in AUM (etc) and have them start playing immediately!

    * To be honest, I'd prefer this be the first "official" BB/Kymatica collab, released by Kymatica for one stupid Applesux reason: I want my loops to be available at Audioshare/Looper/123.wav without any fuss on my part! But yeah, whatever. I really just want to loop bits while I'm jamming in an AU host of some sort.

  • Group the Loop 1.4 has been released which seems to have all the features ...eager to check it out now...I guess the Looper has to be the one routing all the input and output audio..

    From the app details:

Here's a quick overview of some of the new features.

    • AUv3 effect hosting

    • Greatly improved MIDI control

    • Ableton Link “Sync Start/Stop” support

    • Drag and drop support

    • Audiobus 3 support

    • New and improved loop engine

    • Mute and overdub CUE options

    • 64 frame buffer size support

    • and much more...

Ah is the „AUv3 effect hosting“ the insterting of the GTL app as an AU effect in (for instance) AUM

    Or

Is it, that I can now insert any AUv3 effect in the gtl app?

Hi @david_2017, it's the latter. You can now add AUv3 effects to loops and the audio input in Group the Loop.

I'd love to make an AU looper or AU version of GTL. Maybe someday :)

Hey Sir, thanks for jumping in and answering my question.
The latter is actually something the lineup is still missing... ;)

I tried to rebuild this with ReSlice instead of Samplr and ChordFlow instead of a mic and an AU instead of the guitar.

But I got something wrong, I think:

    Audiobus preset 'Amused Ravioli:
    http://preset.audiob.us/ji5WRgExvX0wFBY

Would you possibly share your AudioBus preset?

    >

    Here it is

    Audiobus preset '00 Live A01': http://preset.audiob.us/aW7ac87Ag5D3aeY

I’ve tried but failed to paste associated AUMs preset as more often than not it doesn’t load but you might be lucky.

  • @jmarshallgtl is it possible to decide the length of the loop on the fly? Say I start recording and press stop when I’m ready or is it always dependant on the X button?

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Wait how do you unlock the longer loop time in Kosmonaut?

Yes just turn off the CUE button. Also make sure Ableton Link is off if you want to set the tempo manually.

  • @jmarshallgtl nice looking app and update! can it be triggered to record by threshold?

Thanks @gusgranite. No, not yet anyway :)
You can manually punch in/out with a MIDI foot pedal.
