Retronyms - its 2018 iMPC “pro2” still has no pad layering Just 1 sample per pad

@Retronyms At least 2 samples per pad - come on team Retronyms

Comments

  • I honestly feel they will save that for iMPC Pro 3 or something...

If there are two samples on the pad, then the probability of a crash will double. If four then four times. It's terrible to think what will happen to 127. Total Armageddon and we do not see version 3.

  • hopefully not but in the meantime get your Resampling groove on , layer samples via layering programs and resample away... place a note in the same spot for all the samples you want to layer so that they'll be triggered at the same time while you're sculpting and then resample the results into the sound/sample you want. archive and repeat.

This is very true but when Iam mixing the bounced tracks to a DAW for mixing there will be no way to seperate the merged samples Its mainly for my kiks - i.e 808 with a lighter kik can be a nightmare to mix if on the same track

  • @Retronyms @Samu @kobamoto Another glitch / bug I noticed when in record if by mistake you play the same sample at the same place you already recorded it adds to the previous recorded one All the other drum apps including BM3 do not do this

Yepp! I've noticed the 'overlapping' notes in iMPC Pro 2 as well. There is no way to 'see them' on the time-line either, the only indication is that some sounds play at 'higher volume' so to get rid of them tap on the step with the double volume event and delete it only to reveal there's another note under it :)

We'd need some kind of 'overdub / replace' toggle to avoid this or the app could simply check if there already is a note on the same 'grid spot' and if there is skip placing a new one there.

When quantise is turned off some double-triggering is to be expected but when doing quantise / fix to grid overlapping events should be reduced to one event per pad and grid step.

On the other we have no clue what so ever about the feedback the beta-testers give to the developers and I would not be surprised if we get a reply 'we know about this, it's on the to-do list' or something similar...

I recently found (by chance) that placing/dragging trigger notes on the timeline is a much quicker way to get a groove rolling, instead of tapping it in via pads o:)

Well, that's a sign of being a 'programmer' rather than a 'performer', both methods work equally well!
It's after all the end results that matter, not the way/method it was produced :D

  • sorry, I left out the part 'long samples', it didn't refer to drum and melody instruments.
(basically what a looper is supposed to do - which worked out surprisingly easy on the AKAI timeline)

  • I was just referring to sound design in lieu of a proper layering feature set.... when I'm designing one shots for kits I don't usually worry about performance, I'm just placing a note to trigger all the one shots I want to layer in the same place on the timeline.. pressing play, edit sample, press play again, edit samples again etc...

I would think that it would be able to handle 2 or up to 4 samples per pad. With BeatMaker 3 I can easily load 10 samples (or more ) on a pad and have no crashes or other issues on my old IPad Air 2, and run a decent amount of AU's while doing so. Also the MPC desktop app lets you layer up to 4 samples on a pad, and it would be nice to create Kits on the IOS app and send them to the desktop version with layers. I'd also love to see files/icloud support to send IMPC projects to the desktop version without going thru ITunes sharing.

  • This may not be a solution for a lot of you, but I am going to recommend buying the mpclive instead...

I mean if you like impcpro2 the live is gonna really make you lose sleep.

It’s nowhere near as weak as the impc series. This is my opinion. Thanx for your time

  • yeah its surely not an mpc but if they had called it something else/given it another name like the poopy pants beat machine and charged the same $ people would'a gone nuts....
For $12 bucks +the feature set nothing else compares for non-static beats that vary in tempo and time signature.

  • With all of the available tracks, great Fx suite, and the use IAA and AU in this app, I am really happy for the most part.

I have alternatives for multi layer samples anyway.

I am too glad to have this app for its uses that I need it for.

I have faith that Retronyms will more than deliver.

    They always have.

But, its cool we all use things our own way.

Fortunately the sound quality is among the best of iOS music apps along with Beat Hawk.

Not really any other app that gives me more options with minimal set up and ease of material movement along with parameter control.

    WITHOUT FUSSING and set ups.

iMPC Pro 2 has 'Files.app Support' but it does NOT ZIP the MPC Desktop export folder making it tedious to 'Airdrop' the files to a Mac or upload them to DropBox or a NAS.

Suggestion to @Retronyms here would be to ZIP the MPC Desktop export file(s) and maybe even add a 'ShareSheet/Open In...' feature so we could directly choose where the export goes...

    Just a thought...

That made me laugh - poppy pants beat machine :-)

  • I know I have made a few remarks in this post Its cos the app really is cool and with just a few tweaks it can easily top the beatmaking category
