It works on a rasberry pi. I don't doubt it could be ported to iOS devices.

For those of us who can't watch video at work, what are the WOW factors in this new version?

  • I used to use Traction 2 :p

It supports mpe natively since version 8. Perfectly integrates with the roli products. You actually can adjust automation per note separately after recording.

    Nice!

The chord track thing looks interesting too. (Don't know whether that is new)

  • Not necessarily related but Tracktion 7 is free right now.

  • @Jocphone : Yes, it’s new..

One main reason it's unlikely to be on iOS at any time soon: it's a tiny, private company that would rather focus on continuing to do what they do best rather than adding more platforms. I'm not an employee, so I'm sure that could change without notice :-)

As a long-time Tracktion user (since 2/5), I'd LOVE for this to happen. But, I'd actually just be happy if it supported mobile better than it does in terms of I/O and so on.

I'd urge everyone who may not have a DAW already to try Tracktion 7 as it's 100% free, now. It's undoubtedly the best free DAW. Waveform (T9) is now a solid update. I made several tracks in T7 (I'd skip v8 whenever it becomes free as it was a bit buggy, like T6).

The support forums for Tracktion are on KVR.

  • @vitocorleone123:: Thanks so much. This is all new to me. Do you have Wave 9?

  • One of the most buggy unstable hosts on the desktop, also has many flaws that are caused by bypassing standard practices in UX/i design, sadly Jules is no longer the lead developer, because that would not be the case if he was still steering the ship.
Every new major version we try to give it a good workout in the studio because we are friendly with Jules and he is still involved with the company, it just can't stand up for project critical work at all.

This could be compiled for IOS by setting a few tags in the compiler by the way, it is 100% JUCE other than the timestretch algorithms and the REX support, i doubt very much it would work in IOS because a lot of the UX/i is poorly designed, that is why it is not being ported.

  • So...ok. Good for you, I guess. I’ve not had issues with Waveform 9. W8 was buggy. T7 (now free) was good. YOU may have issues on your hardware, but that doesn’t mean everyone does. I find it easy to make music with - very little fiddling or setup necessary so I can spend time making music not UI changes. To each their own, I suppose.

  • No particular issues with Waveform 8 here. Then again, my usage is not demanding, and my workspace is not best described as a « studio » but rather as a « laptop in gap on desk between cats ».

  • I’ve also not heard of these kinds of issues. I’m really interested in it and plan to explore it further .

  • Ive had zero issues with waveform 8 myself. I got it free with my seaboard block. I'm just too used to ableton to switch though. Plus I'd miss my push 2 too much. But I love using waveform for recording the roli seabords. I just render the recordings to wave after editing in waveform and import into ableton.

  • Invaluable YouTube channel and he’s got some strong thoughts about it...
