PSA: Please respect your our forum categories

Hi folks! I've been getting a high volume of posts flagged for being in the wrong category and spamming up the forum. Those of you posting your music are particularly bad offenders - creations should go in the Creations forum ;)

If you want to save me some time to work on Audiobus 3.2 rather than fixing forum post categories....help me out and use the right one.

Thanks!

now you can see the thread title and in what category it belongs, so I guess that helps a lot.
you never knew what to expect before ...
just ignore the little ish if ppl dont get really ugly ;)

It doesn’t indicate what category it belongs in. It indicates which category it was posted in.

  • Good luck trying to find some valuable info that’s buried 10 or 20 pages deep. It’s really annoying.

The majority of threads posted in the General forum don’t belong here.

It’s just :naughty: to post in the wrong category :confounded:

  • Just post everything in Off Topic....

Many, many topics are about other Apps.
Those are currently mostly in the "General" category.
    What's the problem with that?

No problem at all! It's mostly creations that I'm getting complaints about.

It’s not so bad. Ppl always use the wrong tags. That’s what I expected. So what.
(After you opened a thread there is no way for ppl to push it into another category themselves, so it usually starts in a mess and stays there ^^ )
I get the most valuable info randomly in some random side chat that is totally off topic anyway. ^^
The google search works quite well, btw. ;)

Good point. This is very true.

Having posted a song in “Creations” for feedback and learning from other’s opinions and sharing technical knowledge in relation to said creation, questions, conversation and problem sharing will naturally flow and lead on to such things as which EQs and Compressors have been used, and how we use them, or which Synth or DAW is best for what.

Should we then halt the naturally evolving flow of human dialogue right there, move out of the thread and start a whole new one elsewhere specifically on EQs and Compressors, and then another thread for which Synth or DAW is best for what?

Someone might logically and naturally post one of their own tracks into any one of those other threads as an example or comparison of how they used a certain Synth, DAW, EQ or Compressor. But should they have posted it in another new thread only under “Creations”?

Please listen to my song in one thread, then search through the hundreds of other threads to find the thread to continue reading, discussing and sharing the technicalities of the EQs and Compressors involved, then search again for another thread to continue the discussion and opinions over the Synths or DAWs involved and which is best for what? Then head over to another creations thread to listen to someone’s example? Then head back and forth between the other threads to continue discussing EQs, Compressors, Synths and DAWs?

A resultant branching of disjointed mess which would take longer to navigate and keep up with than one continuous evolving thread?

Personally I have found some great new music, inspiration and pearls of wisdom in some threads here which could be said to have evolved beyond their original ‘category’ of topic. I never encounter what I would call any extreme examples of ‘deviation’ worthy of a flag. Maybe that’s just generous tolerance and having the bigger picture in perspective. Sure, there must be some examples, but where to draw the line on naturally evolving human conversation without becomming too restrictive and anally retentive?

Take the rough with the smooth, just as needs to be done with all social media.
Take what you want, and leave what you don’t want.
A degree of randomness, after all, can turn up some real gems as well as some real pap. Spawn2 is a good example. But I guess that’s for another thread.... ;-)

  • [OT] Re: search
I asked once to be able to search by post title only, otherwise it lists all occurences of the keywords, and you end up scrolling lots of pages to find the main threads.
But you can do it easily with google, just put the keywords in the intitle: section
    For instance google:
    site:forum.audiob.us intitle:perforator

  • Don't most people just read the forum? In all the times I've visited I don't think I have visited a category more than a handful of times. Why not save the hassle and get rid of them?

    I just browse the forum.

Personally I’m not bothered if people post a track in ‘general’ as long as there’s something app-related about it. Like, here’s a track I just made with this new app. It often gives what’s being discussed more context to be honest. And if you don’t want to listen to the track, you can still read / take part in the discussion.

  • I posted my first couple of tracks in general. I was so excited I wanted a big audience! I didn't realize or use the "discussions" tab. Then I saw all the categories in one place. Now I always post in Creations.

I see where posters of music are the biggest offenders. Not sure why people have to complain, though. It's not of plague proportions. @michael, perhaps a semi permanent announcement that original music should be posted in the Creations category till people get the message.
And perhaps the "discussions" tab should be moved to categories above general so everyone learns all posts are listed there.

As far as the tech talk in these threads, the same subjects are regularly discussed in support and general.

My 2 cents, back to the party!

I have the “General” category set as my bookmark and only occasionally check out the other categories. Feels like I get better signal-to-noise that way
