September Sound Design Fest Discussion
@richardyot if you are passionate about taking this over again just let me know and I will defer management of this back to you.
I am very happy with how the August sound design fest has gone, shout out to @RUncELL for bringing such an amazing collection of sounds and ideas to the table. That being said, I cannot see myself continuing to do this for synthesizers that I am not in love with. However, if there is an overwhelming consensus on a synthesizer that you guys are making sounds on I think that would get me excited about pretty much anything.
That being said I was thinking the poll should go a little different this month. I would appreciate your feedback on 2 items.
1) Should this be moved to once every 2 months? The last sound design fest had several people voicing that idea. If people are in favor of it, I am down.
2) Please list the synthesizers you actively design sounds on or have a collection of sounds on. Please do not contribute synthesizers you simply want more sounds for. The key is participation. If you know you will make/ share sounds, put em down.
I will aggregate the faves and see if there is an overwhelming consensus on any synthesizer and we will go from there. Thanks!

Comments
I am in favor of a 2 month sound design fest cycle.
My Synths are:
Ripple Maker
SM1
Korg Arp Odyssey (Lexington)
Korg Chicago
No way - you're doing a terrific job, carry on
Ripplemaker badly needs some more presets... Bring yer patch cables!
i heartily concur.
Thanks @shiftsynth1, unfortunately I don’t have Ripplemaker..but there is another 40 model 15 sounds up for grabs in the August thread. Cheers again all.
Phasemaker?
Aw man i can tear up Ripplemaker in a heartbeat. I hope that's the choice.
I like the sound of Ripplemaker. But does it allow preset sharing?
Has Quanta been thought of? I know it allows preset sharing (at the risk of possibly killing Safari but that’s a small price to pay)
I just checked and I don't think it does... what a massive bummer
I know phasemaker does, because I imported a batch of like 50 presets before. It came before Ripplemaker, so I figure Ripplemaker can as well.
It looks likes you can export Ripplemaker presets as a ZIP. @brambos right?
Yes, export and import via Zip files should work from the standalone app. It will always zip up all user presets, because it was meant as a backup mechanism.
If the exported/collected patches are sent to me I’ll put them in a dedicated subfolder in the presets list.
Here‘s how i did the Ripplemaker preset sharing of selected presets into a new folder category of RippleMaker.
With the standalone
In AudioShare:
=> The resulting „category_presets,zip“ can be shared and if imported, all included patches will land in the category given by the name of the zip
WARNING One currently can not delete unwanted categories or delete presets in these self-made categories in Ripplemaker.
@Brambos - It would be cool if you could implement these features before everyone has tons of unwanted „test“ categories like i currently have
There is also a small bug, a left swipe on an category sometimes shows the ‚delete‘ action - but this deletes one of the user-presets instead of the category folder...
BTW: I already have about 20 presets to be shared....
Let’s do Ripplemaker. It’s time to get weird!
I love Ripplemaker. Most of the sounds I’ve used it for call for active participation though, so as long as people understand that. Ripplemaker isn’t really a static sound maker IMO - it excels when you get those knobs moving!
Thats cool - RippleMaker was my first iOS synth, partly because that app justified selling the 0-coast to buy the iPad. I wonder if it would be worth it to grab some pictures of makenoise 0-Coast presets to get the ball rolling, or patch plugging.
I guess we should all get ready for some really screechy squelchy out-of-control acid SH-202 style mayhem. Thats at least what I mainly get out of it.
Another fun one would be Layr, as those envelopes are amazing,,.. ?? But I 'spose lets wait another 2 months. I will try and contribute this time, although even owning the hardware version wasn't that productive for me.
I’ve patched some non-acid lead, bass and percussion sounds, lots of ‚circuit bend‘ sounds with a twist, generative/athmospheric stuff that is not influenced by the sequencer/midi and some wierd stuff still influenced by the sequencer/midi but only roughly following the input notes
Even though i still wish for more modules - with the limited resources we got, i have done duo osc, fm, am, envelop modulated fm, envelop pitch modulation, found various methods of self-modulation for the oscillators, that result in different harmonics or sound ‚broken‘....
In case someone has missed it and need some more mitosynth presets.

Get these folks!!!!! 👊🏼😎
Fantastic!
Thank you so much for these.
So... are we going for Ripplemaker in September ?
It yes, then i‘ve prepared something special - a free „-ki Techniques“ folder with >50 presets that show how to setup various techniques and ideas for circuit bending which i would post in the official ‚September 2018 soundfest - Ripplemakerk thread
@_ki that sounds awesome. I love the idea of RippleMaker and the make noise box/ buccla style but its a very different world from subtractive synthesis.
I'm def open to the idea of hosting the ripple maker sound design fest. I'm not nearly as experienced with it though and I just bought Ableton so my attention is being drawn to that right now. How would you feel about it being in October? That way I can get a little deeper in the synth, maybe make some videos for resources for people before I open the gates?
Another vote for Odyssei, or better "Lexington" inside Gadget.
But how would we share presets? Screen shots?
I'd be interested in Phasemaker too, but didn't want to invest in yet another FM synth again...
Update: Lexington presets can be shared via Gadget songs in iTunes file sharing.
After opening the song on another device, open Lexington and choose "Save as" from the preset menu. The original preset name from the other iDevice will magically appear and you can store into the User presets. This should work with multiple Lexington instances too.
@shiftsynth1 I would not mind if the deadline of the soundfest is end of october so that there is more time.
I did the techniques preset bank to get you all quickstarted, presenting you some the routing possibilies and how they generally sound - these are not meant to be presets to be played, they are instuctional and a seperate bank. I have another 20 presets designed to be played that i will contribute to the soundfest.
If you already start a topic with ‚AB Forums October Sound Fest - Ripplemaker‘ i could upload the bank there together with the explations the so that they can be found. Or i can setup an extra thread for the preset bank....
But to me it‘s still not clear if we already decided on Ripplemaker, because there are still other suggestions... But i have to remind, Ripplemaker was quite popular in several month polls, so it should get a chance and there were also some people that stated they have Ripplemaker preesets to contribute
I would love to see Ripplemaker being selected. I didn't consider myself eligible for voting, as I haven't had the skill or time to contribute with presets in the past.
@_ki Sounds like a good idea if your techniques preset bank could be posted now and then have Ripplemaker going in either October or September. Perhaps we will see more contributions if users can get a quick start from your techniques.
+1 for now
I opened a new thread for the ripplemaker techniques preset bank. Happy downloading
So, only two days left till october.
@shiftsynth1 If i understood you correctly in the other thread, you stepped back from hosting the october soundfest for Ripplemaker.
.
If noone else is standing in to do it, i offer to organize the October 2018 Ripplemaker Soundfest, so that it takes place at all.
There should be at least two other participants willing to offer presets.
The ones just waiting for Ripplemaker presets should have been satisfied with the Explorations preset bank posted earlier this month
So lets see if there is still enough interest by posting below if you intend to contribute
