  • Well said.

  • I think this is a little more focused than Gadget, and the sequencer is definitely easier to use. At least for me anyway, though I admit I always found the sequencer in Gadget it to be it's weak point. More visual too, you can see knobs that are automated moving for instance. I also think the synthesis in this is a little more robust overall than any individual Gadget module, though it's still rather limited compared to a full on synth too.

And yes, double tap to reset parameters was my first thought too.

  • Excellent answer. I did like the echoopera track. And I’m a big fan of in-built limitations. Workflow is huge and often underestimated.

  • Lots of good wisdom around here. Yes, the workflow to emotion ratio is key.

    Well said, @mAxjUlien .

I want this...but have owned the ESX1 and EMX-1 and never got a lot created with either apart from a couple of cool patterns, didn't dig iElectribe at all, the Gorillaz version was more my speed but that licensing issue killed it for me, and I own Grooverider but haven't given it due attention yet. I do rock iKaossilator and Gadget though so am hoping this gives me that same experience, only more. I might be a sucker, but you've both inched me a lot closer to pushing the button, and for a measly $20 I have a very hard time saying no to a new instrument from a company I trust (despite their unresponsiveness and short attention span in some areas).

Also noted version 1.0.1 just dropped, and it's already #2 in the paid music apps chart. How long can I resist?

I’m not sure anyone really needs any app @ExAsperis99 Much like no one really needed iOS until Apple created it.

I won’t profess to know much about sound engineering. It’s hardly required in my genre of choice but it is fun in this app. I don’t program or create many sounds in Gadget. It doesn’t inspire or require me to do so. I tweak what’s available from a seemingly endless supply.

Waves compels me to make something mine out of the waves/templates. Hard to explain but is very hip hop in the way that it’s all about how you feel. Feeling aggressive? You will arrive at a thuggish ruggish Synth sound somehow and it won’t take long.

Want something mellow, spacious or evolving...non problem...see @echoopera recent submission or work from @LucidMusicInc that I’m sure is incoming.

Much like Gadget is very intuitive...Waves creates its own simplistic quick grooving lane. I never had or played with an Electribe but I think I know now why people loved it. I like playing pads in BM3. I now like programming in Egoist and Waves.

Then there’s just those who are fans of well made toys. This one is bad ass and it’s just version Uno.

I think it sets a standard for other apps to follow.. Ran Stepolyarp thru this beauty.. and.. ‘sequencing the sequences’ in the Motion thing is nice... And like you said.. it’s just version 1...

  • As a side note, I picked up AB3 as I was browsing around the app store. Not sure I need it, but do love the forum and discovered there's a bundle for AB2/AB3 that let me pick it up for a fiver. Always check those bundles (even though they can be wonky)!

Right. I’ll wait for the Electribe bundle then... :joy:

Well, finally had a chance to play with it a bit...and while it's not 100% understood, I did enjoy the process of building this up and hearing it come thru the headphones.

Will continue to push on it to see how it fits into my workflow. This looks like a great little app and I hope it grows and evolve as nicely as Gadget has over the years.

    Anyhoo...less talk...more playing :)

Really like this, and good proof of otherwise also....

  • And, of course, Doug’s run through from his other thread

  • Haven’t even scratched the surface. That’s just a top level overview of the sounds page and I didn’t even go through the second page of pcm waves. I’m going to be busy for a bit with this.

  • It’s on sale for a month. I’ll never make it.

  • For those looking for presets, there some nice ones in the factory patterns. Just have to save them under the program button for future use.

Have to figure out the doing of that but good to know. I would def. buy a program/preset back. Preferably made out of Neo Soul Keys :) @GospelMusicians

Select any factory pattern. Choose one of the synths (S1-S8). Tap on Program in the upper right and Save As. B)

Indeed! Also, some have panned the vocalizations offered in the percussion menu. Get creative kids! Change the pitch and length, run them in reverse maybe and add some effects. Then add some automation! Coolness abounds!

Me too. It confirmed for me that it’s not quite what I’m looking forward for. I will be watching the updates for sample import very closely though!

  • I need to remember that I and many of us (not all) on this forum are not necessarily the target audience. “With ELECTRIBE Wave you can create state-of-the-art dance music like EDM, Future Bass, and Trap.” They are really targeting a younger EDM crowd I think with the sounds, design and marketing.

And that’s good for iOS! I truly hope it sells by the bucket load so the pool of iOS musicians grows and grows.

A statement like that (the Korg one) makes me laugh. Any synth, drum machine, DAW etc. is just fodder to make music with. Truly creative people will do whatever they want with Electribe Wave. I hate the whole “genre” thing anyway. I’m going to bed... ;)

You misunderstand me. My point is more about marketing. Korg are probably more interested in how this goes down with the crowd they are targeting than the AB forum members (except where those groups intersect).

Although I do think this looks just a little limited when it comes to sound design, especially what I have heard with the drum sounds (my lack of imagination!).

It’s a bit weird that they’re still making dubstep. No one listens to that anymore so I don’t think it’s a marketing decision as it is the lack of qualified marketing staff they have. The FAQ page for this consists of 3 questions linked to other products. Compare a Korg demo video to Native Instruments. Native Instruments gets that the masses are into R&B, Golden Era Hip Hop, Deep House and yes Trap. Anyway it’s the same set of sounds they’ve given us over and over again which is fine. It’s about time they released a proper Electribe and with one or two minor problems I have with Midi mapping and song arranging they totally nailed it.
