I agree that this would be desirable, but in fairness, it's an extreme edge case (especially the part about not being able to use "New project") and even though it might sound simple, "fixing" this would mean quite some work, so I'm not sure if it will be done in the short term.
@tja as I said, valid request, but priorities somehow have to be juggled. Keep the feedback coming anyway!
I’m not 100% certain I know what’s being talked about here but I won’t let that get in my way. Something I think would help in the reduction of setup time is something like saved instruments and/or templates.
To give an example, I usually setup a few synths and a drum machine. Synths on channel 5,6,7 and a drum machine on 10. Most of the time these will always be sent to AUM. Viola, template One. (This could maybe be just a saved session and then renamed in leu of templates)
O.K., but ....
The other thing is the cc mapping’s of the instruments, you have to repeat each time you add an instrument (I think). A drum machine, for me, would have a cc map for pitch, decay and a fix send, for each pad. A synth would have filter cutoff, res, some envelope stuff and again a fix send. These would be two template instruments.
This would save a lot of time setting up instruments from a 'new' or cleaned up project.
Hope I’m on the same kinda theme.
@Richtowns I absolutely understand -- while project templates are probably "easy enough" to "emulate" via just a few pre-made saved projects, that doesn't work for instruments.
However, if I tackle this problem, I would like to do it in a more "holistic" manner, and simply allow the import of ANY kind of data (instruments, tracks, parts etc.) from any other project into the current project.
That would be even more powerful because you would be able to create a whole "database" of templates for different kinds of stuff (including, for example, melodies, chord progressions, bass lines etc.), grouped into files and folders etc.
There could be a general "Import from project" button on the "..." screen that lets you open any project and browse (and Import) its data.
Essentially how Blender does it (which I happen to have been a contributor to from around 2003 to 2007
)
Does the app record CC knob movement currently?
@RUST( i )K If you have the midi source setup, and 'auto add controllers' enabled then Xequencer will assign the controller and record the midi. Its a pretty nice feature. I tried it out with external gear yesterday and it worked without problem, havent tried it with virtual midi yet but dont anticipate problems as this is pretty solid.
@SevenSystems It sounds like you have it all in hand. Im off to give you a
review
Well, I must admit the more control I have over anything, the better I feel
Thanks for the review!
