REASON: iOS music "Coup d'etat"?

From my first observation.

Groovebox appears to be entire framework now Reason synth.

Reason "officially" enters iOS app world FOR THE SECOND TIME with the synth app using the REASON moniker.

Did anyone forget about Korg Gadget adding a REASON device? That is no accident.

And I suspect that Wave electribe may be a cause or effect in this whole puzzle.

To the uninvolved participant one may conclude that after long time sitting back REASON is about to come for the iOS music scene in a big way and they have laid some cornerstones in multiple ways over multiple apps.

The master plan is fascinating.

I always felt Novation would somehow pay Ableton back for choosing Akai to make the Push.

Is this the Karmic 2 step unfolding in one facet or another?

Kind of odd the new Reason synth app is devoid of MIDI and a platform?

Has anyone else pondered what may be actually about to drop or happen?

Or am I raving mad??

Cool down, your going too much in the conspiracy mood.

In general, Reason has always been a very “closed” platform. Their recent decisions to support VSTs within Reason, offer Reason devices as plugins for other DAWs, and recalibrate their approach to mobile shows a willingness (or necessity) to experiment. I like it and I’m excited to see it play out.

Edit: although it’s also worth noting that Reason’s CPU efficiency has been markedly worse since they added VST support, even for those of us that don’t use VSTs within Reason. And I haven’t had any issues with stability but evidently others have. So fingers crossed that these experiments don’t impact the “core experience” that they spent so long developing.

  • I love the title of this thread. Reminds me of Oliver Stone. hehe
You may be on to something @RUST( i )K or you may be way off. I have no clue.

Personally, I love the speculation thing. It’s fun. I think Props will be Props and I largely think they are pretty darned brilliant. Enjoyable to see how this plays out but for Reason users especially, I think this week has been a very ... giant one. And hopefully a harbinger of good things to come.

  • Good job connecting the dots, @RUST( i )K. Like any coup d’état, it could easily backfire. But it does sound like something is happening. Reason Compact may just be a warning shot. Or it can be the first step in a misled strategy.

  • I would like to see a storyline that at least involves an alien abduction with a musical theme to it ;)

  • And then an employee from Korg shows up on the forum?!
    Something is definitely up! 😁

Please elaborate on this point about the Electribe Wave?

  • There is no denying the 'similarities' between Groovebox and Compact. Go 'figure'
iReason that you will drive yourself mad trying to work out what is really happening.

Props may also have unfinished business with Roland regarding ReBirth.

I’ve been aware of that since it happened. I don’t see anything ever happening after that, unfortunately. ReBirth has been an old favorite of mine since it was released on the desktop. It would’ve been great if it were further developed. But after discontinuing the desktop version in 2005 and then both the iPhone and iPad apps, I don’t expect to see anything else with it.

Yeah I remember it well. Back then, all I had was a Boss DR-550mkII which I traded with a friend for a Korg Poly-800. I didn’t have any other gear at the time. So I would go to that same friend’s house to make some techno with all the gear he was getting from his brother. Then one day, one of our friends brought over a brochure for ReBirth. I didn’t even have a computer yet. A few months later, I ended up building my own PC, buying ReBirth and a Phatboy MIDI controller. Every day I’d check Propellerheads website for new ReBirth mods. Between version 1.5 and 2.0, I downloaded them all. I still have them saved on a CD Rom and I still have ReBirth installed on some of my old PCs. But I sold the Phatboy when Reason was released and bought an Oxygen 8 (when Midiman was still making them). Then I sold that controller for an Axiom 49 in ‘06 which I still use for Reason and my JP-8080. Running Reason and ReBirth together with the Reason Input device was a lot of fun as well. But I ended up building a x0xb0x a year later and really haven’t looked back until the iOS versions of ReBirth were released. By then, the original excitement of ReBirth was back due to having it on a touchscreen that I can use anywhere without being tethered to a dusty old PC. Once in a while, I’ll play around with it because I enjoy the simplicity of it. But it’s limitations and dated sound quality remind me of why I prefer Gadget as an all-in-one app for the love of classic synths.
