WebAudio on iOS: Cracklefest?
I'm wondering if anyone gets crackle-free audio from more intensive WebAudio-based applications on their iOS device.
For example, this:
Just play the default patch on your iPhone or iPad (polyphonically). Do you get decent output, or is it basically a cracklefest?
Comments
Cracklefest.
3-4 note chords work fine here without hick-ups, Air 2, iOS11.4.1
Maybe also state your device model and iOS version, if it is device dependent.
I would love to see this fixed by the Webkit team, because CPU-wise, modern iOS devices should be more than capable of running such a thing.
10.5 Pro iOS 11.4
Default patch only pressing keys = no crackles.
Changing presets = crackles.
Some patches do crackle though.
There's always the option to send bug-reports to Apple...

9.7 Pro iOS 11.4.1: Cracklefest monophonic playing on default patch
iPhone SE iOS 11.4.1: Occasional crackles when playing default patch polyphonically
(seems to be heavily graphics related. iPhone = smaller screen = no crackles, even with weaker CPU)
To be totally honest, whats the real 'usage case' of these WebAudio synths since they can not be integrated into anything?! To me most feel like 'technology demoes' than anything one would actually use on a day-to-day basis...
Only WebAudioApp I've found somewhat useful is one for drawing single-cycle waves.

@Samu they are fully MIDI capable and nowadays, web-based tech can easily be integrated into anything really and has rivaled native software development for quite some time.
It would even be quite easy to integrate Webaudio-based synths with Audiobus. Not saying that would be a performance dream
but possible.
Yeah, but 'WebKit' on iOS is heavily sandboxed as far as I know...
If it wasn't we'd already have at least one app that allowed us to add a 'Web Browser' as an AudioBus compatible input device and that would make it easy to sample just about anything that plays in the web-browser
Feel free to try, and if you nail it most of us will be happy to fork over a buck or two...
I'd take that challenge, but I doubt Apple would approve it
Doesn't hurt to try now does it?
I mean we already have web-downloaders (ie. we can download the stuff that can also be 'streamed').
We have 'apps' (Ström by humble tune) already that streams audio from http sources and acts as an AB-Input/IAA-Generator. So what would be the difference from streaming the 'WebKit Output' if that's even possible?!
It’s possible using a CCK based interface with a stereo loopback. Just monitor from AB out to the headphone jack only.
True, but I prefer to keep it 'in the box' without additional AD/DA steps when ever possible
That’s fine unless the alternative is “It can’t be done”. Then I’ll live with a slight compromise.
Developer on FB group iOS Musicians said it is possible to record audio from Safari but not Chrome?
