  • I smell a paid advertisement...
ie. 'someone knows someone at Apple who gets paid a bit extra on the side to promote the app' :)

  • Ah this is how these “we Love...” ads work.
Finally we got some insights

  • This is news to you guys? Do you think Adidas gets a full display window in the Sports Authority because the clerk loves the brand? It's a store. They want to sell things. The developers want their products placed.
I'm mostly annoyed because DarkSky, which is a freakishly accurate weather app — "in 11 minutes, there will be a light rain ending in 17 minutes"!! — was updated and now my location is no longer "Brooklyn" but "Long Island." Which is just so painful.

All cool, then someone wants a weather app, gets Reason Compact, then synthesisers there own weather B)

Didn't figure you for Lawn Guyland....did like DarkSky mind....

  • I mean, the entire writeup is technically true and there’s no upfront cost for people to discover that it’s currently just one synth.

Maybe if they had called it Reason Fragment or something like that.....

Technically, Brooklyn is part of Long Island. But — oh, the shame.

You get game or app of the day just by submitting a package showing Apple why your app or current update is cool without seedy payola.

But how many devs do that: 1000 or 10.000? And who reads all those app submitted? So how does Apple decides which app makes it as the beloved app. I'm skeptical.

Sweet and sour smell of capitalism...

Doesn't have anything to do with capitalism. The same strategy of BS could be attached to any system, and is so to a far greater degree than what we're seeing here. If anything a free market system helps weed out such nonsense, or at the very least affords the opportunity to do so, opportunities you don't always get elsewhere.

As to the finer points, beats me. But I am pretty sure the devs I work for are not ponying up any money when they get app of the day as they would just straight up tell me.

  • Brooklyn is part of Long Island tho. I’m Nassau county Long Island and the weather is pretty much the same throughout the whole island.

Keep your rationality out of an Apple-conspiracy thread plz AudioGus!

  • Might be pay for play. Might be someone who's only somewhat interested in music making. Might be someone who's very interested in music making and sees it as a great sounding synth for cheap.

My guess though: It's a slick app and Apple wants to promote a big(ish) brand like Propellerheads puting their flagship product (if really only in name) on their platform.

I reckon this is probably a net positive for indie iOS music developers (and those of us who use thier apps). Lots and lots of people have heard of Reason. I bet that spotlight gets people to tap it—based on name recognition—who will eventually turn to Kymatica, A Tasty Pixel, Brambos, Beepstreet, etc to fulfill their actual music making needs.

  • Propellerheads paid Apple for an app of the day pick? Was this a Donald Trump tweet?

  • Comrades!
As I’ve always said: Capitalism doesn’t work.
A strong plan-economic 5-year plan towards music app development is much needed.

That might work for us 'old' people but for people expecting 'instant gratification' it will be a painful experience :D

Technology today moves so fast it's kinda scary...

Gone are the days when code was optimised for the hardware. Now it's hardware optimised for the code and I know part if it has to do with cutting down development time and stress out the developers oftenleading to Karōshi...

  • Unlike the penis size enhancements and free vacations, I believe these are really good apps.

I'm sure it would have included more in its initial release if you guys would be willing to pay more than the usual 3-7 bucks an app.

Stop complaining. Back in the day when I started out making music it was a matter of actually having 10-15 grand so you could actually afford a synth, sampler, drummachine, a basic mixer and maybe a tape deck.

You don't realize how far it all has come.

    Enjoy and make music.

...and another grand for the (NOT virtual!) cables to connect all that ;)

  • It’s all a sham. We’re reminded yet again that we can’t trust in any of our institutions…. or maybe it’s just about being butt hurt over not getting a pocket change priced iOS Reason.

  • I'm not even hating on the app for the record, or the price, just the app of the day thing.
There are way better apps that deserve that spot....Aum,ab3,layr,tardigrain, spacecraft and the list goes on... Makes ya wonder how and why
