Amazing Noises Limiter & AUM Hard Clipper -- Opinions?
I've been in the habit of throwing on the Amazing Noises plugin whenever I need to keep something in check, but recently I've started going for the AUM built in hard clip node. I didn't really use that particular AUM node much for quite a long time (and I actively avoided the peak limiter as it adds lookahead latency compensation) but it seems to do the job more simply & efficiently and with less tweaking needed.
Anyone else got any opinions or experience on the comparison between these two options? I'd be interested to hear it.

Also try the AUM's built-in saturator (soft clipper). Both will add distortion, hard clip will distort more when it start distorting, while the saturator will start distorting sooner but less aggressive. Of course, personally I think AUFX:Push is great on the master bus, it also has the options for soft/hard clip or a lookahead brick-wall limiter. When using a compressor one can often get high level transients (during the compressor attack time), if those are short enough it's usually fine to just clip them hard to bring up the average level, without any noticeable distortion.
I love the saturation node — probably my all time most used effect on iOS!
Didn’t actually notice the hard clipper adding distortion (I was using it at minus values on channels which are already dirty) but it’s good to know it’s relation to the saturation node (which I already have a strong intuition for the behaviour of).
I also have used Push on the master bus often (not in my current setup but quite commonly) — definitely my favourite compressor on the platform.
Jeez I think some nice fellow should highlight these features in a video if not already, sometimes it easy to assume you need a plugin when you already have it in the host!
i have been struggling to find a nice saturation on iOS, I think it one of the most difficult effect to do digitally. I quite like the fabfilter saturation. Never thought of trying the one in AUM!!!
@j_liljedahl I was thinking about your AUFX, I know when you have time these will be updated to AUv3, for me I prefer it to be a IAP that allows them to be fully intergrated into AUM like your insert dynamics. Would be more elegant however I don’t know if this is possible due to CPU processing? Would be really cool if possible. Ah but I guess then you lose the ability to have these effect in others apps?
I don't think I like the idea of building them into AUM. I'd rather have them as AUv3 only. The only difference would be that AUv3's has no single-knob control to the left of the node. But that could actually be possible to add for AUv3's as well, as long as I find a way to mark which AU parameter should be put there.
Ah I see. I also forgot about using AUv3 in other apps too.
There shall be no other hosts!
😂
AUM’s saturation is BY FAR my favourite saturation on the platform.
I’ll welcome AU-AUFX of course, but I actually don’t have any problem using these as IAA (I use them as bus effects anyway) and enjoy working with them on a full screen interface.
