anyone using Circuit as a midi controller? easy to map controls to the macros?

looking to sell a couple controllers and replace with the circuit. anyone else do this? any problems with mapping in ios?

  • I used to use beastep and then the beatstep pro but by far my favorite controller is the Circuit
I suppose the beatsteps have better velocity controlled pads. The pro has some cool random features but doesnt connect to iOS without extra power (external or camera latest camera connector) The Circuit with batteries connects with a normal CCK plus supplied usb cable. Both Arturia and Novation make sturdy kit but I love the circuit as a controller because
    The knobs are super smooth
    Its a very intuitive layout
You can map so many things. I map it to Aum. Six channels, 4 with 4 knobs and two with 8, then volume pan and sends to two effect channels. (At least 30 knobs and then the whole 4x8 pads can be programmed to trigger by midi note x2)
I basically map it straight onto AUM like in is on Circuit but I can have any 2 synths and any four percussions from ios.

I recommend it a lot. I might get another.

The only caveat is that (I think) the knobs are fixed to cc numbers/hard coded and when you want to map it to apps that have hard coded cc controllers, like brambos apps, sometimes clashes occur.

    Hope that helps :#

  • Yeah, it works great. Like most anything else for the most part. I don’t use mine like that most of the time, but I have. The drum channel is a pain if you want to trigger stuff with it. Like say you want to trigger Ruismaker (either one), you can’t change the notes for Ruismaker and you can’t change the 4 notes available on the drum channel, so you’ll need MIDIFire/MIDIflow to translate the notes. They are Rotary Encoders, but you do get a light that gets brighter when the value is higher, so at least you get an idea of where you are. I’m pretty sure you get the Rotary knobs available on channel 1, 2, 10, and 16 if I remember correctly. As far as I remember, the big filter knob doesn’t send MIDI, just so you know. At least I’m pretty sure it doesn’t. If you run the Circuit’s sequencer you can automate the CCs for the parameters you are controlling in iOS, which is really nice.
