Another user checking for mac. In my situation looking at late 2012 mbp for run garageband/logic/mainstage, Ableton 9 and probably Traktor (not necessary the new) just for audio purposes. Video will be carried by my newold win10 desktop with dedicated graphics card.
I’m finding certain bargains around 400€ (also some maxed mac minis) and I’m not sure what to do...
Obviously my range budget is at that numbers more than 1K but maybe I should look for other models? I hated battery problems on my old polycarbonate macbook c2d and promise myself never gone with all soldered macs but maybe I can just buy an air?

I’m not going to use kontakt or similar but maybe a seaboard will arrive sooner than later...
Help? There is any help for someone like me?

I have a 2012 15" mbp and it works great for audio, I paid $600 for it in the beginning of 2018. I will not buy a computer anytime soon in which all of the parts are soldered to the motherboard. The 2012 non retina is the last one that can be user serviced.

I was mixing on a 2011 11" i7 air, but I pushed it way too hard and it gave up. It's working again as my kids ' laptop for school work and such, but for audio it didnt have enough power. The mbp is good, I'll be sad the day that Apple decides its no longer good.

I’ve been praying that they make another 11” air, the 13” fengshui is just too f’d up for me

  • I want a 17“ macbook...

  • @Cib : Yeah, me too!

  • @AudioGus I have the same feelings and when I go back memories (teenaging as Hiphop Association President in my town 20 years ago) where I expent lot of time doing Fruity Loops... now BlocsWave bring me to there but I feel sad and old...
I can’t fin the space for working properly but also couch iPad isn’t productive...

I think we are being cheated by corps to keep us fatty and saddy...

  • I DO think you can be productive on the couch.
@AudioGus : Based on the way you work, you might wanna consider the new 6.5’ iPhone w 3 gig RAM.

A bunch of musicians here would get together in different combinations, and sometimes just for one or two gigs, give themselves a new name and set.

I joined in occasionally, and I remember one gig we did where a group of the local lads in their early 20's popped in, and expecting a completely new band, saw us lot on the stage instead. Just before they turned around and walked out I heard one of them say 'oh it's those old farts again'. I was 29 at the time.

Yet nearly 30 years later I'm back in a band and we're just about to start gigging. We're all really old farts now.

Not sure what the point of my post is, but basically age doesn't really matter if you're enjoying yourself - whether it's gigs or sitting in a chair at home with the iPad, if it's fun, keep doing it. If no-one else likes it, so what? Fuck em.

Yeah, that’s why I’m waiting for that Apple event on Wednesday w baited breath (new thin MacBook) A d why I’m spending more time in Garageband in favor of Cubasis

I'm pretty sure we'll get a big update to Garageband with the long rumoured AUv3-Midi support support as well as support for Fabfilter Pro-Q 2 among other things :)

Still hoping we'll get AUv3 automation and editing of the recorded touch instrument automation.
Who knows maybe Apple will give us some other surprises too :) (Would be totally awesome with 'lite' AUv3 versions of ESX24, UltraBeat, Alchemy and RetroSynth).

I also pretty sure Logic Pro X will get a big update when macOS Mojave drops.

Yeah, just a few more days and we'll know more :D

Agreed. It’s more to the inner feeling that the external approvation. In fact as Peter Pan 38 years old beatboxer forward thinking person I’m usually confortable with young people but also taking care of my parents (81 and 78) gave me some down energy latest years (their health is so so) and figuring out just maybe time to have a somekind of regular life job the nearest could be artisty management with a partner who has well network and needs my skills (a God gift if you ask)

But again back on topic... it seems we will need a macOS machine for our actual project (first of lots being our startup business a mix between management and artist production) but looking at old 2012 macs (wise for price/specs) and feel all the whole pc ecosystem barely outdated. It increases my oldie feeling...

Why? 2017 iPad is perfect for me. I have zero issues with it.

As for couch productivity BM3 has been a godsend. I am super productive with it.

Heh, something tells me that my wall of text was too much/convoluted for people to digest. ;)

I blame God but to each their own. ;)

Also BM3/couch has been massively productive for me. Musicaly speaking I am super happy right now. Physicaly being a desk jockey is my issue.

  • @AudioGus : I mean for walking around like you said you’re prone to do. The new upcoming g iPhone is made for that (6.5’)

Even my iPad mini at 7.9 feels too small for walking and using at the same time.

@mAxjUlien : I’m gonna have to give that a go. If I tried it w BM2 I could introduce Xequence I to the mix.
What about Garageband on the MBP? It has even more sounds and loops, no?
Also even though it’s still only inter app audio, wouldn’t Sampletank make even more sense as a content source on BM 3?

  • @mAxjUlien : Yes I know about the auto mapping feature in Logic. It’s crazy . Thanks for the tips about content apps!
