Audiobus 2 and Clock Sync
The new Audiobus 2 announcement is awesome. That being said, it does appear that clock sync won't be included in the first draft at least. I just wanted to check everyone's temperature on that to see how you guys feel about it. Also, I've been dying to create a good poll ever since they were introduced, so this kills two birds for me.
And I really want to be clear that I'm not trying, in ANY way, to be disruptive to the genius that is Michael and Sebastian's magic. I'm just curious.

You guys seem to be forgetting about the upcoming MidiBus by Audeonic. Even if AudioBus adds midi sync, there is no way it will do all that MidiBridge can do. And since MidiBridge features will eventually be migrated over to MidiBus one will need to have a midi app open anyways. I mean, is there a single one of you that doesn't use MidiBridge?
I don't know what it is.

You could Google it. It's worth a Google. Lol
What would be nice would be a way to set everything up audio AND midi, and save it as a recallable preset. :-) I think there needs to be more than just Midi Sync for Audiobus. I think it would be nice to have it capable of doing what Jack was capable of (but better). :-)
MidiBridge (which will eventually become MidiBus as I understand it) already has presets (scenes) and if AudioBus 2 had midi assignable presets we'd be there.
I kinda wish Nic would have just added clock sync as a feature via in-app purchase in MidiBridge, instead of the other way around.
@Ringleader Then bring it on! :-)
Less apps please.....if audiobus can incorporate it into a one stop shop then we have the best of both worlds.
Maybe there's a way for *Buses to be synergetic? At the very least, if AudioBus' MIDI extends only to sending a patch change from a VM port, that would be useable by MidiBridge/Bus to do the corresponding MIDI scene change. It can then re-broadcast all the patch changes to other Apps that only do it that way.
DaveMagoo: The AB team are Audio Gods. Nic is a MIDI God. AB might make use of Nic's MidiBus SDK to get into the ecosystem, but Nic's MidiBridge technology has had a lot of thought and experience built into it. Cross-fertilize UI chops to MB may be an idea too.
@dwarman I agree with this! Maybe the two teams ought to work together to create a well-working cohesive whole?
I've thought about it a lot and I realize that I'm in the middle. There are issues with clock sync on iOS for sure, and it would be great if someone as competent as the AB guys would tackle it and fix it like they did when they introduced Audiobus in the first place. That being said, the issue seems to never be the same twice in any two apps. I'm guessing adding in a feature like this would mean it would take other developers a longer amount of time to adopt Audiobus 2.0, and I would think we would all want to avoid anything that would do that. If it doesn't sort itself out in time, then hopefully midibus or some combination of whats been mentioned in the previous comments will offer something to us that will resolve the sync issues.
Midibus as I understand it, is basically throwing a cut-down custom version of MidiBridge into each app. Audiobus could then facilitate by linking everything and remembering the patch settings. I could be wrong, but it seems that the two technologies can work together while still being independent.....
MidiBus is more than that. As I said, its prime focus is ultra-stable clock distribution, coupled with fixing broken clock sends from certain Apps. The bridge stuff is mostly along for the ride, because it already exists. The other benefit of the MidiBus SDK is it normalizes and simplifies the task of dealing with all the various OS MIDI quirks and special cases. So you can code to Virtual, Core, and Network without having any special cases. pgmidi is incomplete in this regard, not surprisingly so since that was not its intent when originated. It is somewhat stuck with its current form because so many people took it and used it as delivered code instead of the example code it was born as.
And yes, the two can certainly work well together. Already do.
also midi control implementation. i would love to be able to bypass an effect, or load/unload a preset (wau! we will have presets!!) just by pressing a pedal or button.
but midi clock, is a need. actually it's a total mess.
For anyone interested, some updated info about MidiBus here:

@Ringleader Interesting read! It looks like it has already been submitted to apple and the library will be ready in just a couple of days! :-)
