My Air2 feels so much smoother again
So far so good
Same here! So far so good on air2
Has anyone tried it with mini2?
Smooth sailing on my iPhone 7. Haven’t tried on anything else yet.
For once it looks like the update hasn’t altered any of my existing preferences and settings.
Apart from the new 'swipe to home screen' gesture that sometimes interferes with apps that have edge protection turned on it's been a smooth ride. Some of the bundled apps like Voice Memos (which has a buggy trim feature) have issues but I suspect iOS12.1 is not too far away considering the XS and XR will drop soonish...
I say hold off on Air 2 for now, not happy with what seems to be a performance decrease for me...getting most of my AUM presets in the red now which were ok before, but near the max.
I haven't installed on my 12.9 Pro 2 yet but now I'm feeling a little hesitant, might wait a bit.
I tested a project before the install which was around 80% and now it's over 100% when I load the same project.
But I don't know the issue of course could be a specific plugin, hard to say so far or if it means anything.
Danm i was getting my hopes up for my air 2 and carnbot ruined it 😂😂
Isn't there a period of time after an iOS upgrade where it needs to re-index and process a lot of things in the background? It might be worth holding off a day before deciding anything is more resource taxed or slower.
I think it will be better tomorrow once iOS is done with the 'house keeping' (ie. re-indexing spotlight and other stuff) it always does that after bigger iOS updates so testing performance a few minutes after an iOS update can be a bit miss-leading.
Taken that I never push my Air 2 more than needed and freeze tracks to keep it 'cool' (so I don't burn my fingers when it gets exiting) it's been fine and dandy so far.
Yeah true, it might be still working away in the background, will give it a rest for a bit.
Ok, So the Air 2 performance seems back to normal now Not better than before necessarily which is what I was hoping, but getting the same cpu figures from before the update.
Do the new swiping gestures interfere with the likes of iFretless apps, GeoShred and the like?
Imo hats off to apple, a 4 years old device that still in race and useable for music making considering how much it's improved in the past years...
If these internal improvements will bring better battery performance I couldn't be happier.
Sorry apple no new device for me
GeoShred works fine. It's mostly apps that have 'regular' piano keys and also allow for swipe gestures for modulation that are sometimes affected. ie. press the note at the lower part of the screen and then swipe up for modulation and that can sometimes (not always) send the user back to the home-screen.
Thanks Samu. How about Animoog blades and Roli Noise keyboard?
No issues so far with Animoog or Model 15. Don't have the Roli.app installed.
It's only sometimes the dock pops up even though the app has edge-protection enabled.
Maybe it's triggered when doing longer strokes?!
I do smell a 'bug' here but need to find a more repeatable patterns to try with apps that have edge-protection enabled. An indication for edge protection enabled is that just a small arrow pops up when swiping up the first time, on second swipe the dock pops up.
What it've noticed is that with longer and faster swipes the short arrow (edge protection enabled) is shown and then dismissed if the swipe is longer causing the jump to home screen.
I really have no clue how picky the iOS12 beta-testers were but with these kind of things 'left in there' I'm thankful I did not participate in the iOS12 beta. I would have gone insane....
Ok thanks.
Speaking of swipes: four finger swipes to switch between apps finally work properly. I.e., you don’t have to wait until the animation stops, you can swipe to jump right back to the app you’ve used before. Yay!
I really like the date on the top bar. Worth the update for me
E: just to be clear, I'm serious. Every day I find myself having to click off and back on to get the date for some reason or another
Update went fine on a pro 12 2015.
No issue until now, and didn't see any improvements with music apps atm.
I have 2 iPad 12,9s, both generations. The Mark I Interface feels so much smoother and and it is a bit lighter to hold than MarkII. I really love the old one
The new one freezes all the time. Any suggestions?
Can this update help?
Air 1 running fine so far.
My Mini 2 is running smooth. No more lag when opening apps like I dealt with in iOS 11. Some apps like Model D and Model 15 are even opening quicker than when on iOS 10. The only trouble I’ve had so far is there’s no sound coming out of Z3TA+.
IPhone 7 Plus runs smooth here, whole experience is faster even in settings menu and various iOS apps including Safari. GarageBand truly benefits from iOS12, it’s much faster. Third party apps seems to less take benefit of the upgrade. At the moment, I’ve got no issues with any music apps.
Only thing I really don’t like is their heavy looking new iMessage with lot of not useful big and ugly icons everywhere...
@Rich303
Great. I think Ill update my mini 2 tomorrow.
Z3ta no sound is a known bug with the last update of z3ta that fixed a small problem with the preset manager. It can be temporarily fixed by rolling the date back a few years! Yes, not a great solution.
I really miss not having z3ta on my ipad, waveshaping was insane. What comes closest?
Thanks for the tip. In all honesty, I haven’t used Z3TA+ in a while. No multitouch and no AU made it easy to set aside, even though it was one of the best sounding synths I’ve used. I’m not even sure what comes close to it in terms of sound and layout combined. I’d recommend Nave. But there’s no AU for it. Waldorf aren’t known for consistent updates either.
I seem to be getting better performance at 24-bit, 48 khz than before. Little to no stuttering when switching between apps or minimizing Cubasis or Auria.
