M3000 on sale - worth a purchase? (Currently on sale - Sep 18)

Hi,

New member here! I have been "lurking" for a while, and have searched but was curious about current opinions on the M3000 as it's currently on sale.

I have quite electic musical tastes and do have the app-collecting bug.

Is it worth getting?

Thanks for any help!

  • I think it sounds wonderful, but ui is pretty horrible, and not being au is quite a turn off. If the sound is more important for you, its definitely worth it.

  • Indeed - the sound/bank selection is somewhat strange...
On the other hand the pads chord teaching is a very quick and handy feature.
Sound is expressive and beefy, solid to take additional processing without going banal.

  • M3000 sounds gorgeous. I've used it a lot, especially Caitlin/Sopranotron. However it is an older app which means it's a tiny bit more effort to integrate into your project compared to more recent apps with AUv3 and whatnot. Also, according to the developer, the most recent update was a maintenance update for iOS 12 and other than minor bugfixes he's now done with it. If further iOS updates ever break M3000, it will stay broken. (This applies to all of his ~tron apps.)

But like I said, it sounds gorgeous and some of the available sounds are very unique. If you pick it up cheap I'm sure you'll end up using it. Even just for noodling and sampling, you'll get some pleasing and singular results.

  • It's one of those apps that runs on a 1st/2nd generation iPad - add an old ioDock and you have a nice hardware sound module for bargain... and (literally) forever.

  • I’ve got ultimate, and I love it. Pro tip: you can double Caitlin’s voice using different volume patches.

  • It’s the ultimate Mellotron. You know what you get. But Jordan Rudess has made an alternative version.
The Jordanthron or something ;) haven’t tried it, but his apps are good.

  • I’ve lusted for one since the 60’s so it’s perfect to me! I’ve used them in the past and they were a pain to maintain and tuneup. I have the Ultimate and it’s awesome, sounds great!
