Partita no 1 in Bm bwv 1002 - Sarabande - one of the most beautiful pieces ever written!

Here is my rendition on the guitar of the "Sarabande", the fifth movement of the partita no. 1 for violin in Bm, BWV 1002, by Johann Sebastian Bach, the father of all western music. This is my original arrangement for the classical guitar from the original violin score for arguabily the most beautiful piece of music ever written by Bach or anyone else.

A Sarabande, or Zarabanda, is a triple metre dance of perhaps Mexican origin rooted in Spanish and Arab influences. It was popular in the Spanish colonies, and soon in Spain itself. It eventually became the form the classical composers wrote in, a slow court dance music, in France.

I play the second section of the song just once, instead of doing the ritornello stated in the score, inspired by the recording made by perhaps the greatest interpreter ever of Bach’s violin partitas, Arthur Grumiaux. Other than this, it’s essentially identical to the original score.

  • I guess you should have put a pad behind this to attract more attention, Dimitri. Quite beautiful, I listened a few times. I have no problem with mangling and shredding. But sometimes less is more and refreshment for the heart and soul.

    Thank you so much!

  • @tja, I am sure there is a pad on SM Player that would work. And, yes, following the chords ot even a drone. But I was just kidding!

  • Pretty awesome we get classical guitar renditions on the forum. A nice change of pace.
