Missing essentials...

Word, I hear ya'll but one of the definitions of the word is "something necessary, indispensable, or unavoidable"
This list is more like "my favourites" or, "that which I keep on my iPad". Like seriously, you got Model D and 15 with both Synthmasters, but then also want Sunrizer S.E.M. and Poison AND Gadget and consider em essentials? A lot of things overlap so...
    Nah
I've narrowed my iPad down to about 11 synths (from the gazillion I have bought on the appstore) and I know those are definitely not all essential to me.

isem and sunrizer are a bit outdated sound quality wise

I couldn’t disagree more. Both of those synths sounded fantastic when they were released and they still sound fantastic now. Have our ears evolved that much in the few years since these apps were released? How are they outdated?

I’m with Beathoven on this. I’m a believer that probably most of the iOS synths out there, old and new, sound more than good enough for the vast majority of us. It’s perhaps fair to say that many of the newer synths can help improve workflow through AUv3 compatibility, slicker UIs and the elimination of broken-by-latest-iOS frustrations. Some might also be capable of generating sounds unheard in previous synths - but unheard before does not equal better than before.
Of course if you expect newer synths to sound better then maybe that affects your aural perception :)
It’s all subjective in any case - beauty is in the ear of the beholder after all!

I dunno about using this word "Essentials".
If ya'll talking essentials then grab 1 or 2 synths, a drum sequencer, either 2 joints from AB3, AUM or ApeMatrix, a midi-thingy like Rozetta or Xequence and 3-4 FX plugins.
    ...Or just get Gadget.
Saying that all of the other stuff is "essential" is a bit of a stretch, although I do understand it's subjective.
    What do ya'll think

Maybe ‘must haves’ would be a better description

  • Yes to gadget for an all inclusive and exclusive environment from start to finish

The iap in gadget go on sale every few months when korg release a new app or gadget and it’s worth taking the time to hear the demos on YouTube first to see which ones would benefit the music you want to make

To the person who said sunrizer is outdated: get a life and knowledge on how to craft presets dude

Those of us that got sunrizer on the day of release knew that this was the buisiness

It has all the good stuff to make any kind of patch from bass to pad to lead to drones

If it never existed and were released tommorow for example- there would be so much excitement about it

It’s basically an all time classic and some prefer it to zeon actually

What defines an essential app? That’s totally a relative, personal and individual thing but for all here at least AUM and AudioShare would be universally accepted as must haves, maybe AB too for many

The rest are pic and mix
