  • Since the Roland MC-505 I've dedicated myself to grooveboxes, and since then I've had almost all devices of this kind in my fingers: different Electribes, Octatrack, Circuit, Digitakt, Digitone up to semi-virtual solutions like Maschine and Push 2. I got stuck with the Deluge. It's simply perfect for my purposes and IMHO the first device that got the typical groovebox spirit transfered from the 90s into the present ... my only wish (multisampling) will be fulfilled towards the end of the year. I'm just thrilled.

I resemble this statement :) Definitely looking forward to trying out the Deluge one of these days!

  • Love me some Elektron Octatrack MKII. Also enjoy the Circuit, just wish it could sequence more than 2 midi synths...

  • I got redirected from here:

Next thing after grooveboxes is Daw in a box.

don't think it's next thing.. it's parallel - daw in box solitions will coexist with traditional grooveboxes ... i love my Digitone/Digitakt and probably will buy more Elektron stuff, but i'm in doubt i will ever buy MPC One or Maschine+ .. "DAW in box" is missing immediacy and straightforward access to all features for me...

I think the whole point of DAW in a box for me is to be able to produce in stand alone and finish on the computer. The way i can move from Maschine+ and MPC One to the desktop is really amazing. I was suspect at first, but leaning on the strengths of StandAlone to get things ’Done’ or almost done and finalize on desktop is just amazing once you get the workflow.

It just makes sense and is quite liberating for me when composing.

What I was looking for was the ultimate Groovebox. One that I could do a continuos set with.

    Even Elektron machines requires preproduction.
I got the octatrack and I use it as a drum machine and a sequencer for the virus. That’s the immediacy I was after.

since the MPC is lacking internal program change and is limited to 8 plugins in a project. I paired it with motif es rack.

Maybe Deluge is probably the ultimate Groovebox in that sense although I think it’s also difficult to do a continuous set with one machine

Unconventionaly I work the other way around. Preproduction on the computer to build a template and then build a set to play live.
I’m curious to get the M+ once I’ve mastered and performed with MPC

  • Getting unfinished compositions out of the Octatrack is a major pain. The Digitone and Digitakt are better thanks to Overbridge, but worse because it records effects on their own send channel.

Moving music from groovebox to computer, or vice versa, is the one task that causes me the most frustration and headaches.

Ah...the good old octatrack. Can't finish something in it. Can get things out to finish outside of it.
