Any Problems With Your Kawai Digital?
Hi, I am curious if any members have had problems with Kawai MP VPC1 or ES series keyboards. And, if so, what kind? I am considering an MP11 and in my researches, especially on the Piano World forum, there seems to be an opinion that Kawai's Quality Control is a bit weak, especially on the MP7se.
I happen to think the sampling of users with problems is way too small to generalize to that conclusion, but perhaps members here are experiencing similar issues, notably keyboard noise and faulty keys. Thanks!

My MP5 has held up well considering its age and the fact that I gigged with a soft case
There’s some key noise and clicking which is to be expected from a well-used plastic key action. You’ll also notice unevenness in the middle keys from the picture. None of this impacts the action itself which is widely considered the best plastic action in a digital piano. No regrets on this purchase and I’d buy probably Kawai again. My first synth was a Kawai K5000w which I bought in 2000. I still have it and it looks brand new.
Pull the trigger!
I’ve used Kawai Stage Pianos for about 15 years now and never had a single issue with it. First an MP 9500 (built like a tank, only a bit heavier than a tank...), then an MP 5. Transported only in a soft gigbag. Thrown around quite a bit. No problems so far. At all.
That MP9500 is a work of art. Chris Martin’s weapon of choice in the early days.
I still use it today at home. Sounds are good (not great), and the keyboard action is fabulous.
I have had an MP8II for more than a decade and it has never presented the slightest issue. That said, it was made before Kawai moved production and I too have read that quality control has suffered since. In spite of this, the MP11 would be at the top of my list if I needed something new.
Thanks @onkey , @LeonKowalski , @asnor. Well, they are now producing in Indonesia, but so does Yamaha. There is no Kawai tech in Turkey so I am taking a bit of a chance. But, along with you, I think Kawai is a leader in digital actions. No other keyboard under 3k works for me as well. There is a current Kawai bashing going on on PianoWorld, which is a really great forum with nice folks, but Kawai is getting a roasting based on a handful of legitimate complaints. Just trying to decide if it is valid or not.
