Seaquence updated

Another generative app based on multi-layered sequencers. Now definitely worth a look for iPad users as it works in landscape mode too.

Initial very quick impressions of the free version are impressive and I like that it has lots of presets to use as tutorial material. The preset library also looks open-ended, with user contributions accessible seamlessly through a web 'galaxy' view. I will probably hum and haw and then spend the £6.99 to unlock the MIDI/etc. features in a couple of days :)

Has a gorgeous sound engine, but inexplicably no IAA or AB in order to use that gorgeous sound further. The second it rectifies this strange deficit, I will pay for the full version.

  • Midi is pretty unpredictable too. Sounds great works well otherwise. I guess just hit record and play it in the background.

Can you explain further about the unpredictable midi please if you don’t mind?

Hey all! Seaquence developer here. I'm guessing the reference to MIDI being unpredictable refers to a bug with our clock sync. If a MIDI "play" message is sent while Seaquence is in the background and not already playing, it won't have an effect until you switch back to the app. The workaround for this is to make sure that Seaquence is playing when you switch to the other app, then send a "stop" message followed by a "play" message, and it should work properly after that. We're hoping to release a fix soon!

If you all have any other issues with the app please let us know via our contact page.

Thank you, i'm gonna buy this app, I really like it!

  • @notlion awesome update! Thanks for not leaving this amazing app behind. I love this app and it just amazes my friends how those little critters make music all on their own.

    Regarding the issues:

    1. When I open up AUM or AudioBus and try to send midi from Seaquence, I get a really bad garbled sound; then Seaquence falls in the background and it’s not accessible anymore. If I launch Seaquence first and disable internal Audio, then I’m able to launch AUM or AB and send midi to what ever Synths I load. But then the midi locks up sometimes and I have to relaunch Seaquence.

I hope this helps. Thanks for the continued support!

Thanks for that workaround method. I love this app, and the new landscape mode makes it much more enjoyable to use. I appreciate the update. :)

I'm looking into this one as well, and I believe it's an issue with the audio framework that we're using. It happens when when another app opens and causes the sample rate or audio buffer size to change. The workaround for now is to quit Seaquence and launch it once your other apps are open. That has been working for me in most cases. It's definitely not ideal though.

Glad you are all enjoying the app! Hopefully landscape should make it easier to use with other apps once we sort out these audio issues!

  • @notlion Great to see the update. Are there any plans to add Probability or Randomness to the sequencer views...so that your melodies can evolve and change over time?

    Thanks again for the update.

  • @notlion Does the midi IAP include midi file export?
