Why do so few apps have Ableton Link start/stop?

I have so many apps with Link and the number that use this great feature is so small. It’s an option you can toggle so I can’t imagine it’s a deliberate choice not to implement it, and I know older versions of Link don’t have it so I’m many cases it’s probably just not been implemented yet. But I see apps getting updated and skipping this entirely. From a dev stand point is it that difficult to update that it would take months/years to add it?

  • I should think much of it is that it’s not always financially rewarding spending time updating apps on iOS. Those that do, tend to be the ones that see their apps as children rather than product.
I think sometimes we forget that apps cost a lot of time and energy to develop, for what could be considered little reward. That’s life though, it’s seldom the ones that put in the most that gain the most reward :p

  • I agree its very useful especially when using with Ableton Live.
It was really easy to add it to Quantum

  • Apps have to be updated to the latest Link version to use it.

  • Patterning 2 is supposed to have it, but I can't make it follow the AUM transport. Always have to manually start/stop Patterning 2. Link's definitely running on both apps.

  • I looked briefly at it for Xequence, and noticed that Link 3 is apparently incompatible with Link 2 (unknown symbols, etc.), unless I was being totally stupid. I didn't feel like reimplementing the whole thing at that time just for that one additional feature, so I opted for start / stop sync via Audiobus instead...
