Next gadget iap...( Went with imono / poly )
Kamata or mono poly.... what should I do haha I picked up Vancouver last week.
I'll probably eventually get em all except gladstone cuz I don't need any more analog drums I'll never use lol
Comments
Monopoly! One of my favourite iOS synths. I use at least 4-5 in every gadget track I make now. Kamari is one of the 3-4 gadgets I don't have - don't think I will get that one evrr
Gladstone is good for Acoustic Drums
If you like chip-tune type sounds Kamata is nice but it can do more too and the wave-drawing can be automated.
Mono/Poly aka Montpellier is pretty neat and quite easy to program.
Unfortunately there is no patch-sharing between stand-alone and the Gadget.
Due to my reduced eye-sight I prefer to use it in Gadget since the knobs are bigger and layout is better.
I'm a 'Gadget-o-Holic' so apart from a few Module IAPs my collection is complete...
Gladstone is actually worth it. I like to layer my sounds with Gladstone just to give that real feel. Go with mono poly. You will get your moneys worth.
ARPodyssey/Lexington over iMono in my opinion. Either one you can’t really go wrong tho!
Yeah, the arp odyssey is the best korg. i've come around to the mono/poly though. One of the few Korgs I've grown to love
My next must be madrid for sure.
No argument here.
The purpose of Kamata is to keep one back you never buy.
If you plan on getting them all eventually, you can’t go wrong. I like every Korg synth I’ve used, to varying degrees. To me Korg = synth. Fanboy, yup, don’t care.
I don't mean to get TOO philosophical, but is there a particular reason? I've never liked hardware Korg synths (for example, my Minilogue is strictly a MIDI controller, I feel gypped to this day despite the low cost), and as stated above, their Odyssey and Mono/Poly are the only software ones I got into. I'm more of a Moog guy, but not a zealous fanboy or anything, I just like the way they feel better. Just trying to understand, because Korgs by and large feel sterile to me.
(Psst, this opening track of Electric Ian, called ‘Warm Remove’, has a lead line which is Kamata (the sound that sounds like a Steel guitar or Hawaiian guitar – it’s Kamata)).
(What’s the song about? I might as well own up and tell – er, it’s about electrical resistance. Yep.)
Nope. The purpose of Kamata is to use it once, have fun, and then never touch it again. Which I did:
(Eleven instances of Kamata, and nothing else)
Apart from that, you cannot go wrong with iMonoPoly / Montpellier. It‘s an awesome sounding synth, not only for retro stuff.
Go for Mono/Poly. There’s a lot of fun to be had with 4 oscillators. It’s also less CPU intensive than ARP ODYSSEi. Forget about Kamata unless you’re really after that particular sound.
@LeonKowalski great work.
@reasOne Kamata is okay for adding some digital ‘sheen’ to a track. But i like iMonoPoly (and ODYSSEi, iWavestation) much more.
You guys rule, mono poly it is..... And pressing the button.... Now..(watch it go on sale tomorrow 😂)
We’ll start a gofundme for you if that happens...
😂😂😂😂😂😂 good looking out @robertreynolds said:
So in montpellier, you get 128 presets, if you want more you make them yourself, right ?
Also I don't see a asdr envelope
If you want my ten-part one-hour tour of my real Mono/Poly when I still had it, here it is:
Things are a bit more hidden in Montpellier than the standalone iMono/Poly version. To reach the ADSRs for the Filter and Amp, you need to flip the switch located centre right on the synth page. It’s a three way switch labelled VCF, VCF EG and VCA EG. It switches between the ADSRs for Filter and Amp, and the usual Filter settings. They had to squeeze it all into a smaller window for Gadget, so there are switches to reach these settings, just like there is a switch to reach each of the four OSCs instead of having them all displaid at once. Hope that helps! 😃🎛🎚🎹
Congrats on the purchase, btw! You cant go wrong with Montpellier. It’s got pretty much all bases covered in its abilities.
Yep, you have a folder in there for user presets. You just cannot exchange user presets between the standalone and Gadget versions. But that’s not really a serious issue, for me anyway.
Thank you my man!!! Wow ok I knew it had to be in there somewhere lol, like really what synth doesn't have asdr 😂😂😂 can't wait to dig into it, I got an extra 30$ from something I sold and was like yep that's the best way to spend my 👍 💰
I'll deff peep this !
I'm glad you went with iMono/Poly first. When it comes to your iOS synths, it may not be quite the beast Model 15 is, but it is a BEAST and the most powerful Gadget-compatible synth. Perfect for anything from Synthwave to Ambient to the cheesiest Supersaw trance.
But for sure get Kamata next. Yeah it may not be "as powerful" as iMono/Poly, but unlike Kingston that's (I think) sample-based, Kamata lets you draw your own waves much like "Sound II" in Trippy-H.
(Yeah, I used to have a Gameboy Camera, and yeah, Trippy-H was the limited music sequencer. I used to have a crapton of fun with that.
)
You can do most of the Kamata sounds with iWavestation (Milpitas) but not the other way 'round.
It's just a matter of scanning through the many available waveforms and steadily resisting to use all that modern superfluous crap like filters and envelope generators
@jwmmakerofmusic Man, I need this Trippy H badly ... what a name for a sequencer
LOL, right? Let me tell you this mate. You need to get a Gameboy or Gameboy Colour, and you need the Gameboy Camera cartridge. Pop that f-cker in there, I think you play a Galaga game where you destroy the "D" ship, and then BAM! There you are in Trippy-H. Two oscillators and a noise one. The 90s were a hella great time.
And, you will need an iPad-compatible audio interface and a two-sided 1/8" jack cable to record the direct output from the Gameboy into something like Auria/Cubasis/whatever DAW you use.
Deff digging the mono poly, I've wanted it since I got my iPad but always got other stuffs instead, until... Gadget 😎
Deff gonna get kamata still when it goes on sale just to get a few sounds from it that I've seen doable in the demos
Next up.... Lexington 😎
Well, I love the sound of the Mini,Monologue synths. Besides Yamaha’s they were my first proper synths - in that they were the first synths that I “bonded” with the sound. I had a pal who was a synth-head and who was a big Prophet fan. I love their sound but prefer Korg’s tothat sound.
Now, I have always wanted a Moog of some ilk. Always. But, the iOS Moog will have to do for me. I might be singing a different tune if I had a Sub37 sitting in front of me.
