How many tracks and how many heavy plugs? And the 7ms roundtrip for babyface pro came direct from their own website...also if you get 3.98 ms of latency from the gen 1, the babyface pro isnt going to shave off 4 or 5ms! You can put money on that horse...

Smh negative latency! Hahaha that aint how it works.

    sorry i meant 0.04 or 0.05 ms i.e 3.94 ms.....my bad......... ;)

"And the 7ms roundtrip for babyface pro came direct from their own website"........you are correct, but that is at 44.1.

Obviously not millions of tracks with dozens of plugins, but perfectly able to cope with a few tracks of live bass/ guitar/ vocals/vsti etc, whilst going through vst's. If recording via studiomux from the iPad, more tracks than i would ever need at one time. Of course like everyone else, when it comes to mixing & adding more & more extra stuff i put the buffer all the way up to the max. I can master with Ozone 8 at 24/96 at a push on the max buffer, but more often than not i have to render out first. The point being though, that i am able to actually record & monitor live whilst playing through plugins.........a holy grail i had been chasing for quite a while...........

  • Sounds interesting.
I was really not impressed with the latency on my apogee duet/iOS.
Going to read up more on the RME, you have peaked my curiosity on this machine.
As sometimes I would like to use effects on the input, as you just spoke about!

I appreciate your time and post.

You don't have to lay out a fortune for a Babyface original if your patient. I bought mine off E-bay for £235.00 inc P&P. It took me about a month to get it , but i had set myself a strict budget, so it took a while to get a winning bid. I saw one go for £205.00 about a month ago, but that was definitely a bit of a one off, £230.00-£265.00 is more usual. The Pro has only very slightly improved specs, but the design is a lot different, & they are still fetching silly prices, 400-500 quid second-hand. The thing that really sets RME apart though is the fact that they still support all their legacy interfaces going as far back as the year 2000, and their drivers are better than anyone else on the market, hence the very low achievable latencies. I haven't tried it yet on ios because i have a mental block about spending £30.00 on a bloody CCK dongle!........however i have no doubt it would work flawlessly, although i don't have any information about latency numbers. Ive had a few interfaces, & this is without doubt the best so far.................good luck with your musical/technical quest! Cheers! :)
