Anyone else using iOS, iDam, AND an Audio Interface in set up?

Trying to come out with new ways of configuring and wondering what methods and routing you use?

Ableton on the MacBook, but is not the base for operations. The iPads are. Ableton is more another instrument for me. Like an app of piece of hardware as opposed to a DAW for my use. But I can appreciate your set up as well.

I am looking at varies means and methods for routing iOS devices/hardware some to interface(mixer maybe as well) as well as iOS device/hardware going to the MacBook(iDam) and how you do it?

I know this is a wire and gear cluster f ......but just wondering on your approaches.

  • I wrote mine in other thread...
IPad with IDAM into Ableton stereo input for dabbling.
Blocswave export to ableton and sending via airdrop.
    Mixing/remixing in mac.

The other approach for garageband/logic/mainstage has as strongest point in logic remote (compatible with the three). Heaven.

    Let me re read.

    3 times.

SO, I DON'T USE GARAGEBAND or LOGIC?

Should I be in your opinion?

Knowin what you do about my flow.

I am often tempted and what like $200 for Logic?

    GBand...you mean iOS?

  • Well, told about my setup also, but I'm using 4 ipads.
3 of them running Modstep, 1st for drums, 2nd for bass synths (mainly), 3rd for strings / high frequencies.
Each of them running also AUM, to make have 3 out premix stereo.
All 3 are connected to the 4th iPad, which is used as the "super" main mixer.
I also can plug a mic and some other synths or any additional gear here.

    I don't use Logic,GB or Live.
Only Cubasis for assembling my live played parts.
While I create a new track while traveling, or to create where I want, I start to sketch ideas with Xequence, or whatever I want to gig on an iPad, then I export the midi parts into each Modstep and "sculpt" the sound.

Best workflow I ever had, by far. :)

  • I played with IDAM for a bit, but decided to buy the ICA4+ and never looked back.

Not sure about yor workflow but I explain mine again here and let you choose

I have the first workflow for beatmaking with BlocsWave as notepad, ableton as Word. Also the choice for live visuals (maxforlive).

    The other workflow is:

    • Record audio on the road with Garageband iOS on the iPad/iPhone through the iTrack dock. Sometimes also AU hosting for synth/samplers.
    • Upload to iCloud or Airdrop in home into mac mini.
    • Open it on Garageband mac or Logic to end the tracks.
    • Export into Mainstage for Live gigging.

As most I use the second the most I see my future... but I’m more on backing tracks than true Live looping and Live acts so take that in consideration.

  • I'd love to get organized and integrate all my different production environments/sound sources like that. So far I've tended to have singular focus on one device at a time, using dropbox to swap audio and midi between them. (Not always ideal or efficient) .

Picked up a ICMidi 4+ a while back for this purpose but still haven't used it, as I haven't figured out which system is going to be the master brain and how I'm going to get the most out of it all. What little I've tested it , I noticed some sporadic audio dropouts/crackling every few minutes, but have optimized my windows box since then.

Running Windows Desktop with Ableton and Maschine, Macbook Pro with Reason and Logic and using iPad Pro w/ Touchable Pro, Logic Remote, RsTouch, and for standalone production with the usual iOS suspects. I'm thinking I might be better off routing iPad to Mac as an audio interface and redirecting the mac audio to pc via coaxial SPDIF ..or buying another interface with optical. Currently have a deepmind 12 and Neutron going into motu ultralite mk4 on desktop, w/ plenty of free inputs.

Good luck on your own endeavor :)
