The keynote said it can charge an iPhone. We won't know for sure until people have their hands on it, but that to me says it has a high enough power output to use an audio interface (as long as it was able to be powered from your computer's usb port)
It’s something I’ll definitely test if I get it next week
good question! As far as specs go, there's no question that USB-C can provide more power than the lightning port could. I think there's a good chance this will work.
I would think the answer is "yes" based on powering an iPhone. At least some smaller interfaces.
Should be able to use a usb harddrive on it too.
Apple said it's USB 3.1
Yup. USB 3.1 Gen 2. Not thunderbolt for the people who may be confused. Thunderbolt does not equal USB C although they use the same port
"USB 3.1 gen 2" apple said that about what? the gen 3 iPad pro? i didn't read that anywhere.
I did read that the battery actually takes a hit:
2018 3rd gen 12.9 = 36.71-watt-hour battery
2017 2nd gen 12.9 = 41-watt-hour battery
so unfortunately even if we can charge/ power more peripherals, there will be less juice to last.
Well they did have to shave another something of a millimetre off it’s size didn’t they.....didn’t they? No they bloody didn’t!
Thunderbolt 3 is the fastest USB-C protocol around: https://thunderbolttechnology.net/blog/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-does-it-all That's the reason I was hoping for a thunderbolt 3 connection. But alas, now there is still something to desire.

Yes, yes they did. Here, have another drink of this Kool-Aid.
Yeah, I saw the vid. Looks fast enough for me. But still it’s only “this guy said that Apple said...”. Im guessing he heard direct from the Apple staff at the hands on display? I was just hoping there was some more direct confirmation from Apple about it.
