Looking for a tiny interface 🤔

    Griffin iMic, iMic2.
Not the best audio quality though.

Yes, Mic input is mono but when the levels are set correctly, it's not too bad.
IK iRig converts it to a more common guitar-compliant jack :)

  • Sonicport VX

  • Zoom U-22; see

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • IRig Duo is pretty small and works plug n play with iPad.

  • https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SC6L--rode-sc6-l-mobile-interface-for-ios is about the smallest I've seen. Judging by the crickets to my question about it here I'm not sure if/how it's being used in the wild.

  • 3.5mm mic input is crappy. I guess if you are just playing around jamming it can be fun.

If i were in the market, I'd be looking for this:

Line 6 Sonic Port Channel Audio Interface
    by Line 6
    Link: http://a.co/d/8uwEao5

It is 2-channel L-R in from 3.5mm ; or 1 guitar mono input. I could see myself strapping that on the side of my guitar strap.

  • Zoom h1n, tiny with mic.
    Behringer xenyx 302 usb.

  • I love my $99 PreSonus AudioBox USB interface:

2 XLR/1/4" phone inputs with Phantom Power for condenser mics (for stereo or routable to separate apps)

    headphone port with volume knob

    2 1/4" line outs (to a PA)

    5 PIN MIDI IN/OUT ports

USB Audio/MIDI to iPad/iPhone using the Camera Kit Adapter
NOTE: Get the Camera Kit Adapter with the optional Lightning Power input and when it's connected the Presonus lights up too.

I just leave mine connected and using the 5 PIN MIDI and have the Line out's routed to my digital workstation (which is my MIDI controller).

If I want anything external like guitars or mic's it's ready to go.
The right and left input control knobs, headphone volume, main out and mixer volume knobs are solid.

It's not the smallest... for that I'd try the IK Multimedia iRig Duo with a similar feature set but it's $199. There are other older iRig's that use the headphone port and sometimes that's enough.
Stereo assumes you have DUO (R+L) inputs.

I velcro'ed my iPhone to a Fender Telecaster and used the 1st generation iRig (which I just noticed on Amazon for $33). Can't get a smaller set up than that.

Please share your results with us and let us know what works for you. Threads like this are really useful for the army of lurkers to follow or find in a Google Search so try to post an answer that works for your criteria.

I would avoid that interface, I had one, there's no gain control first of all, second of all is really delicate at the cable connection. Mine suddenly stopped working, consistent with many reviews I read. I think it's the cable, which is very hard to find and when you do, very expensive.

I still have it, but no cable. If someone wants it just tell me and you can have it.

I'm taking a punt on the Behringer UCA222. Mainly because of the extremely low price point (no great expectations, but looks functional and extremely portable - which is what I need).

And it is red, which is the main thing. That reminds me, I bought a secondhand one of those a few years ago and have thus far forgotten to even take it out of the plastic bag it came in. Probably works though.

I have had a UCA202 for many years, originally bought for use on a laptop but works perfectly still and with iOS...the headphone output is not that great so I also use a headphone amplifier with it.

Yes, I now know the extra 2 (or is that 20?) is an indication of redness

They should have called it the UCA-F22.

  • Bastl Dude seems to be the go to mixer for POs. Powered by 4 AA batteries, 5 channel, monophonic, pretty expensive - €75.

DS microMIX 4 by /u/DichStudios is a tiny passive mixer with 4 channels designed specifically for POs: it has a separate sync output which is very handy. Currently out of stock, used to be $36.

Rakimix is a very cheap (£22.99) 9V battery powered 5 channel mixer. Well, it is so cheap because it comes as a DIY kit, so you'd better be ready for some soldering. And making a case for it, of course.

RK-003 is a passive 8 channel mixer, rather minimal: no knobs, no mute buttons/switches, just 8 inputs and 1 output. You can buy either a DIY kit (€15.70) or an assembled mixer (€31.40), either way you'll have to make a case on your own (presumably by 3D printing).

Daren Ager mixer is a minimal (no knobs, no mute) 8 channel passive mixer made by /u/darenager. Has a sync out (designed for POs, of course). Should be £39 but I don't know if they are in stock.

Just Mixer is a tiny battery powered (2xAAA) 3 channel mixer available for $45.99 ($39 at Amazon). The only compact mixer with faders instead of knobs (for two channels and master). They also have other models but most of them lack battery power and are only powered by microUSB, while this one accepts both batteries and power over microUSB from a phone charger or a powerbank.

Roland GO:MIXER PRO is a mixer with two 3.5 mm inputs (though you can use those 6.3 mm inputs too, just with adapters) and a killer feature: phone connection. Not the most comfortable one for POs (it's just not meant for them, though you can still use it of course), and definitely not a cheap one. Well, it's Roland.

PBMIX-3 is a discontinued tiny 3 channel mixer with built-in battery (it's even charged by USB-C like a real modern device!), send/return channels and a hefty price tag of £129.

KVgear Vixen is something I didn't even consider at first because of its size and weight. It's a capable 8 channel mixer powered by 6 AA batteries, made with Korg Volca in mind (and with a fitting size). It's the most functional portable mixer out there (well, actually there are other great battery-powered mixers but they are even bigger and heavier so they are not really that portable) and it will cost you $249.

Pokket Mixer is a compact passive DJ mixer with two inputs and separate EQ for each input that costs $100.

There are some clever buggers about :)

  • I used it as a loopback device with just the USB 3 CCK and my iPad Pro to multitrack SWAM strings out of Roli Noise. I don’t recall if it worked without power into the CCK. It did with my iPad 2.

  • For power considerations we should also test using a portable USB battery device in the 10K-30K mAH range and see how long it takes to discharge. I'll test the Presonus using the CCK adapter and report back.

What’s the smallest, 2 channel, iOS compatible, usb powered audio interface out there? Any suggestions?

Also, crazy thought, but what’s the mic line in like to record with? I’m guessing that’s mono....

    BOUGHT IT

    NEVER USED IT SITTING THERE.

Yes. A battery pack lights up the Presonus as well as the iPad for charging. I've got a 30,000 mHa iMuto unit... I'll see how long it takes to discharge. 12:45 PST 11/2 start time.

  • The 30000 mHa iMuto product turned itself off after 10 hours and I'd was only 50% discharged. But after that it turned off after an hour and less with each repetition.

I have a 10000 mHa battery connected now and I'm about 3 hours in and the charge indicator shows 25% left.

Sure, PM me your info. I assume it was the cable that broke, but it’s possible the interface is the problem. Regardless, you can have it.
