  • Buy the cheaper one first. Save the pricier one for later. 🙂

NanoKey is plastic shit and the keys are noisy but they look cool ;)

  • Nanokey is Bluetooth and it has assignable knobs. I don’t like the Electribe 2 because of the 4 bar pattern limit.

  • NanoKEY Studio + GR-16 and / or KEW and IMO you’re unlikely to miss the Electribe even a little.

  • yooo do you use the nano key??

    Ya that limit is rough

Even if a lot of patterns are conventionally 4 bars long, 4 bar automated patterns sound very unusual.

So you can't make a 16 bar track ? And slowly build things up, unless you play it live with maybe some thing looping behind it ?

The problem with chained patterns is the little gap between patterns makes glitches and can get very confusing if you want to change it up.

Look at another groovebox like an Electron IMO if you want gear. Try an IOS app like Grooverider or Korg Electribe Wave to get a feel for the workflow. And check out YouTube for the Electribe and the other alternatives.

Yeh, it’s the only controller I use. I have kind of mixed feelings about it. It really bugs me that you can’t change midi channels on it (unless you use the eight scenes for that), and the XY pad is a disappointment. But I like the keys a lot more than I thought I would, and its super convenient to use. I wouldn’t give it up at this point.

  • I uploaded a file to the forum that enables you to use up to 4 midi channels, so 16 pads and knobs % channel. I also made a small adjustment to the xy pad so it doesn’t hit the maximum cc value of 127, instead it goes up to about 110. The xy pad is useful as a volume fader in this setup. You can find it using a search in the forum. Otherwise I’ll be happy to put together a video and link when I have a minute to spare.

  • nice man i'm looking at it heavy ! Seems like a fair price and being able to control gadget with it had to be easier than using this beat step lol> @wim said:

That's sweet I'll dig for it!
I think I wanna buy the es2 and give it a try....I do have electribe wave already, love it! I just miss sampling and tweaking knobs and for that price I think it'll satisfy, hopefully

I don't know if it would be an option but I've found sample import in GR-16 from sampling sessions done in AudioShare quite straightforward, with the great advantage of being able to add IAA fx to the sample in AudioShare before importing them.
It only supports mono samples though.
