For those of you who have worked with both iPad Pro sizes...?
Would love your thoughts on main differences working with these 2 sizes please...
Is the 12.9" that much better than 11"? Just looked at 12.9" older model and it seemed almost too large, but then again, I've never worked on either, so....

I have both 12.9 and 10.5 and prefer the 10.5. Battery seems to last longer. Much lighter and easy to use in multiple use cases. My wrist gets tired when using the 12 without it resting on a table or stand. Also, the 10.5 fits a wider range of small sling packs and tech bags.
As per Lars at Steinberg, 12.9" gives the best user experience of Cubasis. However, the newer models have a smaller form factor - exact size of an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper (Apple says 25% less volume compared to the old version)
All personal opinion/toast. I have had a number of iPads, the 12.9" is far and away my favorite, but I'm a large person with large hands and probably below average vision...![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I used to have the very large Pro (I didn’t measure the screen accurately when I had it, I should have). I now have the 26.7cm Pro, which I prefer. I never took the bigger one out of the living room, it more or less stayed in the same spot on the table forever. It was too big for me. This 26.7cm Pro is far more portable and comes to work with me (I used it on the train this morning, for example, without folding the keyboard cover out – many days I don’t even take the iPad out of my little cloth bag on my back, only using the iPhone).
I have the 2015 12.9 and the 10.5". If I'm doing something "Pro", I grab the 12.9 as a rule. If I want to take one with me out of the house, or just do some reading or web browsing, I'll generally grab the 10.5. But even though the 10.5 is the better iPad on paper the 12.9 still gets more use.
I can't wait to get a 3rd gen 12.9 with the smaller footprint yet same screen size. The only reason I'd want to upgrade my 10.5 would be because I upgraded the 12.9 and wanted to support the new Pencil and to standardize around USB-C.
It’s really a matter of preference. If you want extra screen space, it does make a difference to have the 12.9. The downside is that it is significantly heavier and bulkier. Couch use demands a lap to rest it on. Standing, you can’t really grasp it with one hand and hold it easily. For me it is totally worth it to have the extra size and screen space. The 2018 12.9 update will be perfect for my use.
This review from Engadget says the new 12.9" is much lighter and can be held in one hand comfortably unlike the previous 12.9" models and the old 10.5" model:
Instead of comparing the bulkier/older models, the better thing is to try them out at an Apple Retail Store and decide for yourself.
I would also try out. I lucked out and managed to get the 2nd gen 12.9" as well as having the older 10" pro. I found that the 10" was still best for my job (scribbling in meetings etc) but the 12.9" was best for music and the home. It might be the new 12.9" is a helpful blend of the two.
My 12.9 spends 95% of its time in a floor stand, and in that sense I prefer it to my iMac (let alone my smaller iPads) hands down. If I’m moving around, my smaller sized iPads are much more convenient. I’m intrigued by the smaller/lighter form factor of the new 12.9, but I’ll have to wait until they start showing up refurbed before I could possibly afford to buy one!
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the great input! And yes @MobileMusic, they'll be in the Apple Store next week and I'll take a look before I buy but good to get "working" advice too.
Also wondering if going from 4GB memory to 6GB memory (if I end up getting the 1TB model) is really worth considering at all. I don't tend to have a ton of tracks running ever, maybe 10-15 max. Not sure when the extra memory is an advantage?
Even with 2GB Air2 if I ran into a RAM related problem it was most likely caused by buggy app. 4 is plenty IMO. Advantages of 6GB will probably become noticeable when/if more '1:1' ports like Photoshop appear in App Store.
This is the ‘future-proof” question. I don’t need ___ now, but will I wish I had ______ later? I don’t think any of us are really pushing the limits of RAM, but in a few years there probably will be apps and workflows that demand more than 4GB.
I look at it as a question of how long do I want this device to last. If I were buying an iPad I want to last five years... yeah, get the 1TB with 6GB ram. If my goal is to have something I use for 2 years, then sell it to get the new 2021 iOS hotness, I will be ok with 4GB ram for now.
Maybe also worth that the 11" has less pixels to push and is not advanced as the 12.9" for split-screen (if there are any music apps using it...not sure).![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
But while i´m thinking myself about an iPad i would go 12.9" with 6GB RAM since my 8 on my mac are not enough
