Drum Perfect Pro, Auria Pro, where art thou?
Still only two velocity layers in DPP? ? No updates for a year? Are there any drum apps on iOS that are
4 layers deep besides ispark?
Auria Pro’s been very quiet lately too. Seems all the focus is on ns2 and Stagelight 4.0
Comments
Not specifically a drum app, but AudioLayer has as many layers as you want to tee up. It can be driven from DPP or other midi-out capable apps.
Without a clear path for devs to charge for upgrades, this is essentially what things will be like for iOS. It's just not viable for devs to update apps forever for free.
FWIW Auria Pro is still in development, there's an update on the way, but with bugfixes mainly, and support for bluetooth audio playback.
Are you not satisfied with the 4 layers in iSpark?
Hi, what about 2x 8 velocity layers per instrument in DrumPerfect Pro?
Would that be sufficient?
In not too long?
Agreed. Speak it softly but Auria Pro I would subscribe to....
Well, me too (I use it every single day), but unfortunately the PR would not be good...
But yes, development has slowed recently, and it's because there is no new revenue to justify new work.
I love me a 2.99 throwaway as much as (more than?) the next guy, but there needs to be a fix on the store model if we're going to keep going/developing....I dunno, a Patreon model whereby one gets early access etc? Doesn't sound very elegant. Oh to be a philanthropist etc.
How will you be keeping that compatible with the current kits that are 2 x 2 velocity layers x 4 random alternates per instrument?
The new sample scheme will be more flexible. The old one will still be supported.
The maximum number of samples per instrument is still 16.
Where the old scheme has two sample groups (left/right), the new scheme can have up to ten sample groups (named left/right/1st/2nd/3rd/4th/var1/var2/var3/var4).
A sample group can have up to 8 velocity levels. The amount of crossfading between adjacent velocity levels in a sample group is adjustable.
Some examples for instrument layout:
1 sample group, 8 vel levels, 1 random alternate per vel level
8 sample groups, 2 vel levels per sample group, no random alternates
2 sample groups, 4 vel levels, 1 random alternate per vel level
1 sample group, 2 vel levels, 8 random alternates per vel level
or any other combination that sums up to 16 samples.
I’m helping to test AP and DPP and both have had beta updates not too long ago. There is something super cool (from my point of view) coming to DPP but I don’t think I’m alowed to talk about it... so I’ll tease you all instead, I guess.
It is already done.
The solution is flexible and totally compatible with previous kits.
Still 16 samples per instrument.
So we can have:
16 smp x 1vel randomly selected
2 smp x 8 vel +- crossfaded
4x4 RND + crossfade
8x2
3x5 (+1)
5x1 (+1)
10x1 no RND
2x6 + (1x4) or (4x1) or (2x2)
Etc...
Up to 10 totally independent sounds/articulations/variations per instrument.
160 per kit.
Wrote this without knowing that Marinus had already replied. So two ways to say the same thing.
Looks good. Well done guys...
@Gilbert and @Marinus you continually amaze me. DPP is already terrific, but quietly reaching new levels all the time.
@TheOriginalPaulB : Ispark is plenty good but I prefer more acoustic sounding kits also . The new DPP sounds like the bomb!
@Marinus : Wow, thanks for the detailed response... Any word as to when we’ll be seeing this new instabuy of an upgrade this is sure to be? Before Christmas, perhaps?
