APC40 Found on the Street
Came upon this today in Brooklyn:
I mentioned it in another thread, but then I looked into replacing the dials and fader knobs that have been stripped, and it won’t be as cheap as I thought. I don’t have a mixer for my setup. Assuming this works, is this worth pursuing?

You could make your own ones with some Sugru.

If you look on your local Craigslist you'll probably see an ad "Full set of APC40 knobs and fader covers: $50".
This would be the angle.
I think those posts are a standard size. If you don't mind it looking a bit funky, just look around. Plenty of junk electronics out there with fader and knob handles.
Something like this

may be an option - but make sure they fit.
These would look pretty good for the knobs - and for about $2.

I suspect the sugrue option would end up more expensive.
Did you plug it in to make sure it works? 😂
EDIT: I now see that you said “assuming this works”
It’s a great controller, but I had two faders go bunk over time. I worry that even replacing knobs may not extend the life very much.
Replacing faders is easy. You'd need to buy or borrow a soldering iron, but the connections are huge (by modern standards). If you can't stomach soldering you'd need to buy a roadie or studio maintainence girl a beer and get them to help. If you do make sure you hang around to watch - it's a useful skill, and can save you a lot of money.
I’m actually pretty good with a soldering iron and had never thought of fixing it myself! Gonna have to look into it now. Thanks!
@ExAsperis99 let me know when you stumble on that Minimoog I’ve been waiting for!
Only in Brooklyn...
Totally works!
Nice. If you're in Brooklyn, maybe just go to thrift shops or whatever and find broken gear with caps that fit?
Best thing I learned about today. Thank you!
MPC Stuff has them, but they're expensive:

Or try one of the modular synth parts suppliers (in bulk)(measure the shaft diameter, and whether it's 'notched', has a set screw, etc.):

Maybe someone from the MPC forum or one of the DIYers on Muff Wiggler would know. Good luck.
Chroma caps at djtechtools store. There is probably a full pack for Apc40. Not the cheapest option but a personal touch for sure.
