Synths with a twist?

Looking to explore synths with a “uniqueness”
Currently learning Mood with its fm and sample warp feature, incredible!
Also Lorentz, with is resonator section and creative delay, awesome!
Wondering what else is out there, so please share.....

  • "Menace Synth" for $5 is incredibly simple in it's UI design:

    Cutoff - slider
    Resonance - slider
2 Wave buttons - Saw or Square
    Attack slider
    Release Slider
Max Chaos slider (this adds extra OSCILATORS with shifted pitch and makes things go crazy fast)
2 Filter Buttons - Classis and Gnarly (bit-crushed I think)

There's MIDI IN (that only seems to work in AUM using the MIDI Matrix to configure).

And a ribbon finger pitch controller (close to MPE keys) and Notes keyboard option.

Really simple to slide things about and find an interesting preset.
Doesn't feel like synth programming but it is.

Using Rozeta LFO for "Chaos" can also get something cool out of it.

There are YouTube demo's. RUST(i)K mentioned it this week and I took the bait after watching Youtube demos.

  • Moon Beam - as dusty and wobbly as old jelly.
Sylo Synth - granulate and resonate your samples.
Synth Q - a complete workstation that I’ve never fully put through it’s paces. Very capable.

  • Theres lots of fun to be had with granular synthesis thats pretty different from other techniques.

Im partial to SpaceCraft myself but there are a few granular apps that look interesting.

  • There's some amazing sound lab stuff out there (e.g. iDensity/iPulsaret, Moebius Lab, Sound/FieldScaper, Shoom, Virtual ANS etc.), but it can be hard to find productive uses for some of these.

Twin 2 (the FabFilter synth in Auria Pro) has an amazing modulation system, which I think sets it apart:

iWavestation and SynthScaper are both rare and beautiful snowflakes.

Not a synth, but do you have Samplr? It's a unicorn.

Black Friday sales are coming at the end of next week, don't forget, so be sure to save some precious pennies for that. But get SunVox.

    Excellent recommendations above. Other ideas:

Ripplemaker! It might seem intimidating at first but just explore the patches to get a feel for what it can do. It’s crazy well optimized too, as @brambos is famous for.

The Erik Sight synths - tardigrain, shape synth, strng, and elsa - are all unique and well optimized too. The cool thing with them is they are each designed to explore very specific sound synthesis ideas/territory, (and pair that with super well chosen effects in each case) but the UI guides you through the exploration process in a completely intuitive way. To me their UI takes the intimidating/tiring factor more experimental synths can have out of the equation: they nudge you into tweaking the important things and trusting your ears. No manual needed..

It’s on the non-intuitive side of the spectrum if you’re trying to make it do traditional pitched stuff (aka read the manuals, and look for tutorials) but iVCS3 remains an experimental powerhouse imo.

    Doubleplus on Erik's Humbletune apps.
    Definitely unique and well-designed.
