iRig Blueboard with Tonestack?

Hi All,
I've been researching this, and it seems that I'm looking into a rather niche topic so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Trying to decide if it's worth it to use the iRig Blueboard with Tonestack? I use Tonestack for 100% of my bass guitar rig in my rock & roll band. It works like a CHARM. I just need to be able to change effects live without swiping. I've seen a few pedalboards out there but I am looking for something with bluetooth and expression pedal support which looks like this will be the ticket.

Anyone with experience in this can share their experience?

Thanks!

  • It works, not much else to say. It's been a long time since I used it, but it did work when I did. I got away from using my iPad for any sounds live because any interface that allowed power seemed to also allow lots of electric noise.

I use a battery bank to supply the power, and it has completely removed all the noise. It makes for the quietest recording / performance rig I’ve ever used.

  • @wim @mrufino1 I'm curious about your live rig (or in general). I'm using a Shure MVi, which draws power from the iOS device. I haven't really had any issues with noise (yet).

I use an Apple USB 3 Lightning adapter with a battery bank plugged into the lightning charging port, and a USB hub plugged into the USB. The hub I have can be powered from the iPad, thus powering my devices. My audio interface is usually an iRig HD Pro (older model), but I also use an old Lexicon Lambda occasionally. It is absolutely silent when powered from the battery bank. If I replace the battery bank with mains power, or if I power the hub from mains power, then often I will get noise. Just crappy power in my rental - doesn’t seem to be anything I can do to eliminate it.

  • I was using a few different interfaces, and anything plugged in equaled noise. The line6 toneport had no noise but ran off iPad battery, so then I was always chasing keeping it charged. In the end I just went to pedals and it was much better for me. I also realized that having too many tone choices on bass live doesn't make much difference on my gigs.

I'm using a valeton bass dapper with the compressor, which is fantastic, always on, then the other effects only on a few songs that need, and have an ehx bass microsynth and zoom mb60 with detuned chorus to simulate a moog in the effects Loop. That runs into a tech 21 vt bass and then into my genz benz streamliner 900 with usually a 112 cab, sometimes a 110 or 310. Or, no amp and in ears (my preference).

I'm sure there are others who have had better experiences with ios live than me. It did work but just too many little variables to keep track of.

  • Thanks a lot!

Yes I do the same - powered hubs are often noisy due to mains hum. Battery packs are silent.

I had noise with battery too, it was disappointing. Could have been the interface, and I invite I won't be buying any griffin products again.

  • I have very minimal (to none?) noise. I use a Behringer U-phoria. the 29 dollar one - which was recommended to me on this forum actually. Then I use the Apple Camera USB 3 adapter and make sure I have the power supply plugged in before I fire up all my apps. Then i plug it directly into our PA system mixer via RCA plugs.

I am actually still blown away by how useful 27 dollar (got a demo model for cheaper) audio interface has been for me.

My only issue is that I need to change effects while playing and the Behringer midi pedalboard looks like it's way too hard / time consuming for me to program. My hands get sweaty and sometimes the ipad doesnt respond, or certain effects I cannot pull my hands away from my bass long enough to change the effects.

So I'm hearing that the iRig blueboard works pretty well, even if i dont use IK Multimedia's apps like amplitube?

Sorry for the noob questions but if I ask these at a guitar center theyll look at me like im crazy hahahaah

That's because they don't have a clue what you're talking about - it has nothing to do with you.

oh absolutely. i think that even some sound engineers might think we're all crazy :D hahaa

  • Works great with tonestack. I am really happy it does work well, just remember the extra aaa battery's or charger cable for it though! Also the added expression pedal part is amazing for a lot of effects. Do it I say mate!

  • +1 for the iRig Blueboard!

I haven't used mine in a while but when I have its been with forscore to turn pages. I'll have to get back into it with amp apps at home even though I don't use on gigs.
