MPC 4000 Pros, not much it can't do. Cons It's the weight and size of a cash register.
I'd recommend the Digitakt to anyone. If you think it's boring you don't know how to use it well enough.
I've never owned any of the bigger Elektrons but getting a used MK1 would be pretty solid too I'm sure.
You can granulize samples very smoothly by using 3-4 tracks, track microshift and appropriate attack and decay settings, all randomized a little bit by using RND LFO.
@rs2000 what do you mean by track microshift?
Maybe meant trig micro-timing offsets?
If you want to shift more than one step you just hold all the step buttons simultaneously and shift them.
An iPad pro 11'.
I have tried: Roland 303, 404, 505, 606. Roland d2, mc307. MPC 500, 1000. Zoom sampletrak. Korg Microsampler, electribe EMX, kaosillator pro. E-mu mp7.
Assuming this is not your only gear, and you have a daw and iPad etc. (So you have other options, not to combine or anything I'm assuming you want to use the piece standalone)
EMX is the most fun. Mp7 is fun and has more sound design possibilities.
If it's going to be your centerpiece get an MPC (though I vastly prefer Reason as my centerpiece.)
The Roland's (all of them) are my least favorite on that list.
If you wanted max potential and really test the wallet, in hindsight I would have went for octatrack. But I love my digitakt so much. I’ll never sell it even if if I got an octatrack. It’s part of me.
Looking at US prices the Deluge is 899.00
uh oh!........
After octatrack, digitakt felt castrated. Castrated pony with one or sixteen tricks)
Octatrack is a sophistic hardware monster, digitakt for me really better only in comressor part ,
maybe in effects quality... but another parts much more primitive.
Plus import fees.
chuckles
That's the secret of its success.
I dunno, have you seen clips by Cenk, NostalgiousRuckus, or Red means recording?
from the looks of it they were able to get quite a lot more than that out of the digitakt, and I think Cenk now moved on from the octa to the digitakt for the center hub of his live rig.
Digitone?
so apparently people are already using the new mpc features to make instruments out of their iPad synths... this is going to be game changer for the mpc live portable version as it's going to be a helluva swiss army knife on the go, being able to freeze tracks with fx, turn anything you hear into a synth, onboard looper, audio tracks etc... and all in stand alone mode for 6 hours on battery not to mention the fact that it has Ableton link is going to make it the 21st cent 4trak (but with a lot more tracks) that will fit in and immediately be able to blend with any situation be it serious production, sketching, or jamming with others via link

OPZ
yeah....not my thing to be honest.
Cool
Appreciate that.
Dudes, I would vote MPC Live again. Check out today's update. HOLY SHIT!
3 built in synths which sound amazing, built by AIR Music.
Autosampler for your midi Synths. It basically samples each note based on the settings you provide.
new UI for effects and lots of bug fixes and improvements.
And I was just about to sell this thing. They just pissed all over Native Instruments.

I've bought and sold the Digitakt, had some good times during ownership, but just snagged a 2nd hand mk1 Octatrack off ebay 2 days ago and had more fun in those 48hrs than I've had with any other piece of hardware, including OP1, Push 1 and 2, several Volcas and the aforementioned Digitakt. So I vote Octatrack, all the way.
Oh, and that's before I've introduced it to my ipad and the myriad apps I intend feeding to it!
good person to ask, I've never owned an octa which has better sound your octa or the digi you had, I've heard many people say the digitakt even sounds better than the octa mk2 and I'm a little interested in it but why would elektron not put the best sound into their flagship?
May have winner......
@kobamoto congrats mate. It seems finally MPC Live is being the promised tool.
Autosampler is awesome from standalone hardware.
Personally I never had any issues with how the MK1 sounded myself, so anything that claims to be better than that would fine with me too. Having stereo samples on the Octatrack for me is the real key, it's a lot easier to get really full sounding live sets without having to reply on the same reverb or delay for width. That's one thing on the Circuit that kinda bugs me too, stereo samples just add so much more depth to things I find.
You can still do a lot with mono, that I know first hand. But I think the stereo aspect is definitely one major bonus over the Digitakt that I don't see mentioned much.
yeah man, I was quite harsh on the mpc live when it first came out but it's definitely getting there, the stuff it has now + what they've already committed to implementing means it's a classic in the making, and resampling the digitakt and vice-versa has been pretty much beat machine heaven for me
Yes big uh oh indeed! So happy about the update. Played around with the synths a bit and they were able to convince me. And the autosampler i have been wishing for a long time as well, not the mention that the old school mpc menu + pad menu navigation!
Dub fx used Digitakt very well, off course tru artist used all available colors.
But after creating of octatrack this Swedish guys don’t have new ideas, maybe they became stronger as a commercial structure, but for me magic of elektron instruments sucked up drained away.
When Hector show us monomachine, it was incredible, this lock-technology working very well in a modern way...after classical machinedrum and monomachine they produce octatrack! Oh my... we can do this shit with samples! Another two members of trinity looks well too, this guys brings trig conditions and analog engines.
elektron have rich legacy, but new boxes just sell old technologies. I owned all elektron machines besides digitone and analog heat and off course mk2 series , for me it’s a same stuff in new package.
Maybe we are very spoiled by a great variety of great applications with an incredible amount of new ideas and workflows for far less money...
I feel like we are getting into an era of subtleties and that it is over all a good thing for the long run for example, I love my mpc live and I hate the orientation of the pads and the screen as much as I love the machine I wish they were reversed.... but for left handed artist it's an incredible subtle feature. I feel like this is what is happening with elektron, the octa, rytm, and digitakt might carry the same ethos but there is enough differences between them that are somehow simultaneously subtle and major that we the customers benefit from. I can't tell you how many people I've seen say that they bought the octa, hated it and then bought the digitakt and love it, or got an rytm, or went the other way and ended up with the octa.... before these times we didn't have such opportunity to fine tune our desires for a sampling beat machine and every choice was vastly different from the others but now look how we can fine tune our choices for what really works for us!!!
If they build an digitakt mk2, with stereo sampling, battery power, sample slicing, more storage, and at least 4 audio outputs I will by it site unseen !!!
