Anybody ever recovered an iPad from an iTunes backup?

  • I have done backup and restore to the same device with a reset in between....but not to different devices.
I think the iTunes backup only backs up iOS and user data...apps need to be reinstalled from the store, although it should do that automatically I believe.
Perhaps it is doing that and you are being a little impatient ? 140 GB of apps would take a while I'm guessing ?

  • I have. A coupla things. It took a long time (like 24 hours) before all the apps finished restoring--because they get downloaded from the App Store rather than restored from the computer backup. Apps not compatible with the OS weren't downloaded which took me a while to figure out.

    Many thanks, @AndyPlankton and @espiegel123

I would not be impatient, if i could see anything that moves - neither the progress bar in iTunes or the used storage did change at all.
And i was already waiting for 2 hours.

So, i thought that something must be wrong and i tried again ... several times now.

Can you remember, if the progress bar in iTunes did move?
As i wrote, mine is either stuck far to the left or seems to be finished but never actually finishes.

I think i need to open a case at Apple

I don't recall if the status bar moved or not. :(

  • I can't remember details. I do remember, though. That I thought it failed and erased and restored again and left it alone for a day and got back everything but the 32-bit apps.

Do mind sharing how did you do that?

This was using iTunes to restore from a backup.
