Convert Audio to midi - any ios apps for this?!

  • I’ve found this online conversion resource more accurate than my Desktop Melodyne program or my my IOS app Midi Guitar 2:

    https://piano-scribe.glitch.me/

I use it mainly for converting arpeggiated piano and guitar audio to mid files, which then typically only require only minimal cleanup to note durations in a midi editor.

I only have Melodyne 4 - I’ve read that Melodyne 5 is much better audio to midi conversion.

Thank you for providing some feedback!!

Very interesting….. so, I wonder if your app will be able to create text files of tabs that guitar players can say, upload to webistes like Ultimate-guitar, and guitartab.com and other sites?

I got Jam Origin’s software to work, but it’s rather quirky - mostly because my instrument is violin, not guitar. Always looking for a better audio to midi converter.

Thank you - and I hope your new app sells well

@SecretBaseDesign ~ What happened to MIDImorphosis? I can't find it on the app store?

MIDImorphosis had been getting pretty rickety. The audio engine was designed in the stone age. I felt like it was time to retire the app, and go in a different direction.

The "new" app is Rapid Tab -- still does pitch-to-MIDI, and you can use it to play synths "live," but I'm focusing on making transcriptions. You can record the notes (and adjust the number of strings, tuning, etc.), to get tablature -- and then with an on-screen button, tap to get the notes to "play" in time. There's a bunch of editing functions so you can clean up a transcription easily, and the app will export a MIDI file or MusicXML, for importing into DAWs and sequencers.

I spend entirely too much time on Ultimate-guitar! GuitarPro (good desktop software, and one of the standard formats for UG) can import MusicXML -- and that's why I put MusicXML output in my app.

My theory is that the market for "tab creation" software is bigger than the market for live-pitch-to-MIDI -- so that's where the shift in focus came in.

I tried Piano Scribe. So far it looks like the only one that worked for me. It recorded into midi right in front of me. I played the conversion afterwards. One problem is that when downloading my midi file it comes out as .mid.fxb, I need an only a .mid file. I can’t open this .fxb format and it remains highlighted out when trying to import from Daw. I thought it would download as a regular midi file. @Danny_Kil How do you go about this on getting your Piano Scribe files imported into your ios Daw. From what I’ve gathered online is it seems this fxb format is meant for some desktop plugins. Doesnt look like any ios app support.

I had an period a while ago there I converted piano songs to MIDI, with great results!

The best I could find was actually an Online Converter - better than the known method in Logic Pro Mac...

    Try this:

Hi. Have you tried the "usual" tricks: delete the .fxb extension, try to view it as text, change .fxb to .zip, etc.? FE File Explorer Pro is one app that can do these useful but naughty tricks. Also, see if you can usefully share it to any other app. I find that sharing often works when importing does not.

I tried ai-midi earlier after I failed with the .fxb file download. I tried it before I used Piano Scribe too but failed that time. This time I trimmed to 8 bars and it worked great. I’m still wanting on getting piano scribe file to open. I liked the midi it produced.

I’m extremely happy that ai-midi was a legit one that actually worked. I also tried Spotify but I think you need a computer for that one because I couldn’t open any of my device files.

Some of them yea. I’m still hellbent on trying some other tricks. I tried opening with Koder but it crashed on me. I’ll still go at it and use the options you said. I haven’t changed the extension but I’ll give it a shot.
